1 WATER FLOODING TUTORIAL 5
Excersis-1: A new injection well is to be placed in service in
an oil reservoir where the reservoir pressure has declined below
the bubble-point pressure. Current reservoir pressure is 800 psi.
Bottom-hole injection pressure is expected to be 2600 psi.
Calculate the water injection rate early in the life of the well
when the radius to the water and oil banks are 200 and 388 feet,
respectively. Assume the injection well skin value is zero.
Other data are given below:
Φ = 20%
Swi=26% , (dfw/dsw) at swf = 3.2
Average water saturation in the swept area at BT= 56%
h= 8 feet
Ko at Swir = 10 md
Kro at Swir= 1
Krw at average water saturation at breakthrough=0.3
Assume Krw at any water saturation > average SwBT =0.8
μo=0.9 cp
μw= 0.6 cp
rw= 0.33 ft
Excersis-2: Assume the well in Excersis-1 above is part of an
80 acre 5-spot pattern where the diagonal distance (d) between
the injector and the producer= 1320 ft. bottom hole pressure of
the producer is set at 500 psi.
1- Calculate the water injection rate before breakthrough
time at 80435 bbl of water injected
2- Calculate the water injection rate at 350000 bbl of water
injected
