Python for Hydrology: Infiltration Indices

The document is an assignment for B.E. Civil Engineering students focusing on the application of Python in hydrology to determine infiltration capacity and indices. It includes a problem statement requiring the calculation of W-index and Ø-index based on provided rainfall and runoff data. Specific outputs for the program are detailed, including total rainfall depth and indices in cm/hr.

Assignment 2
Application of python for Hydrology (Determine the infiltration capacity and infiltration
indices).

Problem Statement:
Determine W-index and Ø-index for the following given data:
1. Rainfall hyetograph
2. Runoff depth

Programme should print:

For W-index calculation:
1. Value of total depth of rainfall in cm.
2. Value of W-index in cm/hr unit.
For Ø-index calculation:
1. For each trial: duration of excess rainfall, total depth of excess rainfall, Ø-
index in cm/hr
2. Final value of Ø-index in cm/hr

Problem 1:
Problem 2:
The average rainfall over 45 ha of watershed for a particular storm was as follows:
Time (hr) 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7
Rainfall 0 0.5 1.0 3.25 2.5 1.5 0.5 0
(cm)
The volume of runoff from this storm was determined as 2.25 ha-m. estimate the Ø-index.
(Ans: Ø-index = 0.81 cm/hr)
