Chapter III
RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODOLOGY
This chapter discusses the methods and procedures in preparation for
developing the software product – Online Booking and Transaction Monitoring
System for Duck’z Auto Detailing & Car Wash. It also describes the research design,
the research locale, respondents of the study, the research instruments and the
research procedures and the statistical treatment for the development of the software.
Research Design
A descriptive survey was chosen to collect accurate information regarding
the current practices in the Online Booking and Transaction Monitoring System for
Duck’z Auto Detailing & Car Wash. This approach allows for a comprehensive
analysis of the existing system by quantitatively assessing its structure, identifying
inefficiencies in managing bookings and transactions, and evaluating the challenges
faced in organizing, storing, and retrieving customer and service data. Through this
study, we aim to determine the most effective features and functionalities for an
enhanced online system that improves operational efficiency, security, and
accessibility. Input from respondents, including clients and employees, will help
identify key system requirements necessary to address the specific issues highlighted

in the survey responses, ensuring that the system meets the needs of both the
business and its customers.
Respondents of the Study
This study was conducted at Duck’z Auto Detailing & Car Wash, a business
specializing in vehicle cleaning and detailing services. The shop manages numerous
customer transactions daily, including service bookings, payment processing, and
service status tracking. Currently, these processes involve a combination of manual
and digital methods, which may lead to inefficiencies such as booking conflicts,
delayed service updates, and difficulties in tracking customer records. By
conducting the study within Duck’z Auto Detailing & Car Wash, the research aims
to assess the challenges in the existing booking and transaction monitoring system
and propose an optimized solution to improve efficiency, accuracy, and customer

Research Instrument
The primary research instrument utilized in this study was a survey
questionnaire, designed to collect data from both employees and clients of Duck'z
Auto Detailing & Car Wash. The questionnaire aimed to assess the challenges faced
in traditional car wash operations, the feasibility of an online booking and
transaction monitoring system, and the desired system features to enhance service
efficiency.

Structure of Questionnaire
The questionnaire was divided into two versions: one for employees and one
for clients. Each version consisted of multiple sections to capture relevant insights.
Employee Questionnaire
1. Work Experience
Gathered information on employees' tenure in the car wash industry.
Identified challenges encountered during service delivery, such as heavy
workload, lack of equipment, difficult customers, and long working hours.
2. Operational Issues and Areas for Improvement
Assessed common problems faced in car wash services, including long
waiting times, inconsistent service quality, limited payment options, and
scheduling difficulties.
Identified aspects needing improvement, such as cleaning process efficiency,
customer service, and working conditions.
3. Perception of an Online Booking System
Evaluated employees’ opinions on whether an online system would improve
workflow and service management.

Collected preferences on system features, such as automatic scheduling, real-
time updates, and job tracking.
4. Essential System Inputs and Expected Benefits
Determined key data points needed for the system, including customer
details, vehicle information, booking preferences, and service status tracking.
Identified expected advantages, such as reduced waiting times, improved
service management, and enhanced payment processing.
Client Questionnaire
1. Car Wash Experience
Examined clients’ current car wash habits, frequency of visits, and service
preferences.
Identified common issues, such as long waiting times, high costs, poor
cleaning quality, and limited payment options.
2. Interest in an Online Booking System
Assessed clients’ familiarity with online booking systems and their
willingness to use one for car wash services.

Gathered opinions on desired features, including faster booking, real-time
updates, appointment notifications, and feedback options.
3. Essential System Inputs and Service Expectations
Identified necessary client data, such as contact details, vehicle information,
preferred services, and booking confirmations.
Evaluated customer expectations for an efficient, user-friendly online
platform.
4. Recommendations for Service Improvements
Identified necessary client data, such as contact details, vehicle information,
preferred services, and booking confirmations.
Evaluated customer expectations for an efficient, user-friendly online
platform.
Data Gathering Procedure
Data was gathered through a self-administered questionnaire that was
distributed to the respondents. Respondents were instructed to select options that
best represented their needs, expectations, and operational challenges. All
participants were informed of the confidentiality of their responses and the purpose

of the research, encouraging candid responses. The data collection spanned over two
weeks to ensure adequate response time and participation.
Statistical Treatment of Data
To analyze the data, the following statistical methods were applied:
• Descriptive Statistics: Frequencies and percentages were calculated to
summarize responses to multiple-choice questions, providing a clear overview of
respondents' preferences and operational needs.
• Mean and Standard Deviation: These measures were used to analyze the
overall importance of various features (e.g., real-time monitoring, predictive
analytics) as indicated by the respondents.
• Cross-Tabulation: This technique was applied to compare preferences for
specific features across different respondent groups (e.g., based on the level of
operational challenge faced).
This statistical analysis provided a comprehensive view of the administrators'
needs and priorities, enabling the development of a monitoring system that is
responsive to their unique operational requirements.

Statistical Treatment of Data
The data gathered was organized, interpreted, and analyzed using various
statistical tools, which are detailed below.
Percentage Formula
The percentage formula was utilized to calculate the proportion of
respondents for each response category. This measure provides insights into the
distribution of preferences and operational challenges faced by the administrators.
Formula:
P=fn×100P = \frac{f}{n} \times 100P=nf×100 Where: o PPP =
Percentage o fff = Frequency (the number of times a particular response
was chosen) o nnn = Total number of respondents (20)
Weighted Mean
The weighted mean helped determine the average importance rating of each
operational feature, based on respondents' preferences. This measure highlighted
which features were prioritized, such as real-time monitoring and scalability.

Mean and Standard Deviation
These statistical measures provided insights into the central tendency (mean)
and variability (standard deviation) for importance ratings, reflecting the consistency
in respondents' views on feature necessity.
Cross-Tabulation
This technique was applied to compare preferences across subgroups, such as
analyzing if administrators with higher operational challenges prioritized specific
features more strongly.
