TOPIC: DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A POULTRY FARM
INFORMATION MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (A CASE STUDY OF
INDOMINIO FARMS LTD)

CHAPTER FIVE

SUMMARY, CONCLUSION, AND RECOMMENDATIONS

5.1 Summary

The Poultry Farm Information Management System (PFIMS) was developed to

modernize the operations of Indominio Farms Ltd, replacing a manual, paper-

based system plagued by inefficiencies, data inaccuracies, and limited

accessibility. Using PHP for back-end processing, HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, and

JavaScript for the front-end, and MySQL for database management, the PFIMS

was implemented and tested in a XAMPP server environment. The system

includes modules for stock management, feed tracking, health monitoring,

production logging, sales, and user management, with features like dashboards,

reports, and notifications. The development followed an iterative approach, with

rigorous testing (unit, integration, usability) and phased deployment to ensure

smooth adoption. Training and support were provided to staff, and the system’s

performance was evaluated against the existing system, demonstrating

significant improvements in efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.

5.2 Conclusion

The PFIMS successfully addresses the limitations of Indominio Farms Ltd’s

manual system, providing a web-based, user-friendly platform that enhances

data management and operational efficiency. The use of PHP, MySQL, and

Bootstrap ensures a robust, scalable, and accessible solution, while the XAMPP

environment facilitates cost-effective development and testing. Features like

real-time dashboards, automated reports, and notifications enable data-driven

decision-making, and offline capabilities ensure resilience in low-connectivity

areas. The PFIMS positions Indominio Farms Ltd for growth and

modernization, setting a precedent for technology adoption in poultry farming.

5.3 Recommendations

To ensure the PFIMS’s long-term success and maximize its benefits, the

following recommendations are proposed:

1. Continuous Training:

o Conduct regular workshops to train staff on new features and

ensure proficiency.

o Provide advanced training for managers on generating and

interpreting analytical reports.

2. System Enhancements:
o Integrate IoT sensors to monitor environmental conditions (e.g.,

temperature) and feed data into the PFIMS.

o Develop a mobile app using PHP frameworks (e.g., Laravel) to

complement the web interface.

3. Maintenance:

o Schedule monthly updates to address bugs, enhance security, and

improve performance.

o Regularly back up the MySQL database using phpMyAdmin to

prevent data loss.

4. Cloud Deployment:

o Transition from XAMPP to a cloud platform (e.g., AWS or

Heroku) for scalability and remote access.

o Optimize hosting costs by selecting appropriate server

configurations.

5. Expanded Integrations:

o Integrate with payment platforms (e.g., Paystack) for seamless

sales transactions.

o Partner with veterinary services to incorporate real-time health

data.

6. Community Outreach:

o Share the PFIMS model with other Nigerian poultry farms to

promote digital transformation.

o Collaborate with agricultural institutions to train farmers on similar

systems.

By implementing these recommendations, Indominio Farms Ltd can sustain and

enhance the PFIMS, ensuring continued efficiency and scalability in its poultry

management operations.
