Question:

Some people think that schools should focus more on academic subjects like math and
science, while others believe that practical subjects like art and music are equally important.

Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Answer:

There is a conflict between the people. One side of the people are suggesting that academic
subjects like math and science is more important and school should ideally focus on them only.
In contrast, others are believing that extra curricular subjects are equally important for
development of the teenagers. Let's discuss why both the things advised by the two groups are
equally necessary.

One hand of the people are suggesting that school should primarily focus on academic subjects
like mathematics and science. They ideally believe that extra curricular activities like dance,
music, and sports are not necessary for the development of the child and will not be useful in
long run, as it won't help them secure a job. Instant, their 100% focus on the primary academic
subject will help them achieve ideal job such as, engineer or a doctor and they will help serve
their society. They support their arguments with example of a topper, who is only focused on
studies and achieves his goals and be financially stable in future while helping his native by his
knowledge.

On the other hand, people are advising that practical and extra curricular subjects like are,
music, and sports plays a pivotal role in their well being and it helps them develop a talent. They
argue that, not all students can be a academically stronger for becoming an engineer or a
doctor, instead they could become an artist, a painter, musician, or a sports person. They
suggest, that being a topper would make them secure a job but, being fantastic in any one of
the extra curricular activities, they could represent their respective countries in front of the
world. For instance, all the cricketers, or athletes in Olympics represents their nation in front of
the world, it is very proud moment for their nation and as well as for themselves.

I believe that extra curricular activities should give as same priority that we give to academic
practice because we can't force toppers to participate in practical subjects like art and music.
Same way, we can't force the perfectionist students in their perspective field to focus on
academics. There are variety of students, some are brilliant in sports, music while some are
outstanding in academic. Our society need both kinds of students, one who could serve to
society by becoming an engineer or a doctor, while other glorify their society by opting for other
activities such as art and music. Hence I believe that, schools should give importance to both
the opinions respectively.

Sample Answer:

Some people believe that schools should focus only on academic subjects such as
mathematics and science, while others argue that extracurricular activities are equally
essential for a student’s development. This essay will discuss both perspectives and explain
why both areas are important.

On one side of the argument, many believe that academic subjects should be prioritized.
According to this view, subjects like math and science are the foundation for high-paying and
respected careers such as engineering and medicine. These individuals argue that
extracurricular activities like music or sports do not contribute significantly to future success
and may distract students from serious studies. Supporters of this view often cite examples of
top-performing students who dedicate themselves exclusively to academics and eventually
attain financial stability and professional success through their focused efforts.

On the other hand, a growing number of people believe that extracurricular subjects such as
art, music, and sports play a crucial role in shaping a student’s personality and talents. They
argue that not every student excels in academic subjects, and schools should provide
opportunities for all kinds of learners to develop their strengths. For instance, athletes,
musicians, and artists can also achieve national and international recognition, representing their
countries on global platforms. This kind of achievement not only brings pride to the nation but
also provides alternative, fulfilling career paths for young people.

In my opinion, both academic and extracurricular subjects deserve equal importance in a school
curriculum. While academic education provides the foundation for many traditional careers,
extracurricular activities nurture creativity, discipline, teamwork, and physical health. Not all
students have the same interests or aptitudes, and education systems should reflect that
diversity. A balanced approach enables students to discover their true potential, whether in a
lab, on stage, or on the sports field.

In conclusion, schools should avoid favoring one type of subject over another. Academic
excellence and extracurricular engagement are both essential in producing well-rounded
individuals who can contribute to society in various meaningful ways.
