Demo Teaching Script – Subject and Predicate

Topic: Subject and Predicate
Time: 15–20 mins
1. Introduction / Motivation (1–2 mins)
Teacher:
"Good morning, class! ■ Today, we are going to learn about Subject and Predicate.
Every sentence has two main parts: who or what we are talking about, and what the subject does.
Let’s look at this sentence: The dog runs.
- Who runs? → The dog. This is the subject.
- What does the dog do? → runs. This is the predicate.
So, subject = simuno, predicate = panaguri in Taglish."
2. Lesson Proper (5–7 mins)
Teacher:
"Now, let’s see more examples."
- Anna sings. → Subject: Anna / Predicate: sings
- The cat jumped. → Subject: The cat / Predicate: jumped
- My father works. → Subject: My father / Predicate: works
"Remember:
- Subject tells who or what the sentence is about.
- Predicate tells what the subject does or what happens to it.
Sa Taglish:
- Ang simuno ay sino o ano ang pinag-uusapan.
- Ang panaguri ay nagsasabi kung ano ang ginagawa o nangyayari sa simuno."
Tip: I-underline ang subject at i-circle ang predicate sa board for visual effect.
3. Guided Practice (5–7 mins)
Teacher:
"Let’s practice together. Underline the subject and circle the predicate in these sentences:"
1. The girl dances.
2. My teacher speaks English.
3. The birds are flying.
4. The sun rises early.
5. Our dog sleeps in the garden
"Example: First sentence – 'The girl dances.' Sino ang pinag-uusapan? The girl → subject. Ano ang
ginagawa niya? dances → predicate.
Good job!"
(Walk around, check answers, give positive feedback.)
4. Independent Practice (5 mins)
Teacher:
"Now, write 3 sentences about your favorite hobby. Underline the subject and circle the predicate.
Who wants to share one sentence? Don’t be shy!"
(Encourage volunteers to read aloud, praise correct answers.)
5. Discussion / Reinforcement (2–3 mins)
Teacher:
"Why do you think it’s important to know the subject and predicate?"
Student answers → Teacher reinforces:
- English: "It helps us understand sentences better."
- Taglish: "Mahalaga ito para maintindihan at mabuo natin ang pangungusap nang tama."
6. Evaluation / Assignment (3–5 mins)
Teacher:
"Let’s check what we learned. Identify the subject and predicate in these sentences:"
1. The sun rises.
2. Our class is noisy.
3. The baby is sleeping.
4. The teacher explains the lesson.
5. Maria and Juan play basketball.
Assignment:
"Write 5 sentences about your family or friends. Underline the subject and circle the predicate."
7. Closing
Teacher:
"Great job today, class! Remember: subject tells who/what, predicate tells what the subject does.
