Questions)
This version contains entirely new questions following the LCAT mathematics pattern. Each topic includes
word■problem■style items with full step■by■step solutions.

Algebra — Word Problems & Equations

1) A number added to twice itself equals 36. Find the number.
Step 1: Let number be x.
Step 2: x + 2x = 36 → 3x = 36 → x = 12.

2) The sum of two numbers is 28 and their difference is 4. Find both numbers.
Step 1: Let numbers be a and b.
Step 2: a + b = 28, a - b = 4.
Step 3: Add equations: 2a = 32 → a = 16.
Step 4: Then b = 12.

3) A shop decreases a price by 20% then increases new price by 25%. If original was 200,
find final price.
Step 1: Decrease by 20% → 200 × 0.8 = 160.
Step 2: Increase by 25% → 160 × 1.25 = 200. Final = 200.

4) Solve: 7/(x+1) = 1.
Step 1: Multiply both sides by (x+1): 7 = x + 1 → x = 6.

5) A farmer has 60 m fencing to build a rectangular pen. If width is 10, find length.
Step 1: Perimeter: 2(l + 10) = 60 → l + 10 = 30 → l = 20.
Geometry — Areas & Shapes
1) A circular garden has diameter 16 m. Find area.
Step 1: Radius = 8.
Step 2: Area = π × 8² = 64π.

2) A triangle has base 14 cm and height 9 cm. Find area.

Step 1: Area = (1/2) × base × height = (1/2)×14×9 = 63.

3) A square has perimeter 48 m. Find side length.

Step 1: Side = 48/4 = 12.

4) The diagonal of a rectangle is 25 and one side is 7. Find the other side.
Step 1: Use Pythagoras: other side = √(25² − 7²) = √(625 − 49) = √576 = 24.

5) A cylinder has height 10 cm and radius 4 cm. Find volume (in terms of π).
Step 1: Volume = πr²h = π×16×10 = 160π.
Trigonometry — Right Triangles & Ratios
1) Find tan(45°).
Step 1: tan45° = 1.

2) In a right triangle, hypotenuse = 5 and one leg = 4. Find other leg.

Step 1: Use Pythagoras: a² + 4² = 5² → a² + 16 = 25 → a² = 9 → a = 3.

3) Angle of elevation to top of building is 60° from point 20 m away. Height?

Step 1: tan60° = height/20 → height = 20×√3 ≈ 34.64.

4) sin θ = 3/5 in a right triangle. Find cos θ.

Step 1: Opp=3, Hyp=5 → Adj = √(25 − 9) = 4.
Step 2: cosθ = 4/5.

5) A ladder leans against a wall making 53° angle with ground. Ladder is 10 m. Find height
reached (sin53°≈0.8).
Step 1: height = 10×0.8 = 8 m.
Coordinate Geometry
1) Slope of line through (1,2) and (5,10).
Step 1: Slope = (10−2)/(5−1) = 8/4 = 2.

2) Midpoint between (−3, 4) and (5,8).

Step 1: Midpoint = ((−3+5)/2 , (4+8)/2) = (1, 6).

3) Equation of line with slope 3 passing through (2,−1).

Step 1: y + 1 = 3(x − 2) → y = 3x − 7.

4) Distance between (1,1) and (4,5).

Step 1: Distance = √[(4−1)² + (5−1)²] = √(9 + 16) = √25 = 5.

5) If a point moves from (1,3) to (7,10), find displacement vector.

Step 1: Vector = (7−1, 10−3) = (6,7).
Probability & Statistics
1) A bag has 2 red, 3 blue, 1 green. P(blue)?
Step 1: Total 6; blue = 3 → P = 3/6 = 1/2.

2) A die rolled twice. Probability sum = 7?

Step 1: Pairs summing to 7: (1,6),(2,5),(3,4),(4,3),(5,2),(6,1) → 6 outcomes.
Step 2: Total outcomes = 36 → P = 6/36 = 1/6.

3) Average of five numbers is 14. Find sum.

Step 1: Sum = 14×5 = 70.

4) Median of {4,7,1,9,3}.
Step 1: Sort: 1,3,4,7,9 → median = 4.

5) A class has 20 students: 12 girls, 8 boys. Select one randomly. P(girl)?

Step 1: P = 12/20 = 3/5.
Number Theory & Sequences
1) Check if 91 is prime.
Step 1: Try dividing by 7: 91 ÷ 7 = 13 → not prime.

2) Sequence: 2, 5, 8, 11… Find next two.

Step 1: Pattern +3 → next: 14, 17.

3) Find LCM of 6 and 8.

Step 1: LCM = 24.

4) Find remainder when 50 is divided by 7.

Step 1: 7×7 = 49 → remainder = 1.

5) Sum of first 5 odd numbers.

Step 1: Odd numbers: 1,3,5,7,9 → sum = 25.
Data Interpretation — Word■Based Problems

Step 1: Average = (70+80+85)/3 = 235/3 ≈ 78.33.

2) Price increases from 500 to 600. Percent increase?

Step 1: Increase = 100 → percent = 100/500 ×100 = 20%.

3) A worker completes a job in 10 hrs. Another worker in 15 hrs. Together?

Step 1: Rate = 1/10 + 1/15 = (3+2)/30 = 5/30 = 1/6 → time = 6 hrs.
