Class 8 Mathematics - Question Paper

(Chapters: Comparing Quantities and Area of Polygon)

Maximum Marks: 20

Time Allowed: 45 minutes

General Instructions:

All questions are compulsory.

The question paper consists of 10 questions divided into four sections A, B, C, and D.

Section A comprises 4 questions of 1 mark each.

Section B comprises 3 questions of 2 marks each.

Section C comprises 2 questions of 3 marks each.

Section D comprises 1 question of 4 marks.

Show your work clearly for Sections B, C, and D.

Section A: Very Short Answer Questions (4 × 1 = 4 Marks)

1. If the ratio of two numbers is 4:5, what is the percentage of the first number with respect to the
second number?

2. The area of a rhombus is 144 cm². If the length of one diagonal is 18 cm, find the length of the other
diagonal.

3. A shopkeeper bought an article for ■500 and sold it for ■550. Find the profit percent.

4. Write the formula for the area of a trapezium whose parallel sides are a and b, and the height is h.

Section B: Short Answer Questions Type I (3 × 2 = 6 Marks)

1. A cycle is marked at ■3000. A shopkeeper offers a discount of 15% on it. Find the Selling Price (SP)
of the cycle.

2. The diagonals of a quadrilateral intersect at right angles. The lengths of the diagonals are 10 cm and
12 cm. Find the area of the quadrilateral.

3. Find the simple interest on a sum of ■8000 at the rate of 5% per annum for 2 years.

Section C: Short Answer Questions Type II (2 × 3 = 6 Marks)


1. Calculate the Compound Interest (CI) on ■10,000 for 1 year at 10% per annum, compounded
half-yearly.

2. A rectangular park is 60 m long and 40 m wide. A path 2 m wide is built inside the park along its
boundary. Find the area of the path.

Section D: Long Answer Question (1 × 4 = 4 Marks)

1. The difference between Simple Interest (SI) and Compound Interest (CI) on a certain sum of money
for 2 years at 10% per annum is ■40. Find the principal amount (sum).
