SMART DUSTBIN USING ARDUINO
title
ABSTRACT
With rapid urbanization, waste management has become a serious issue. The Smart Dustbin using
Arduino is designed to automate waste disposal and monitor garbage level using sensors. This
system improves hygiene, reduces human effort, and supports smart city initiatives.
CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION
Waste management is one of the major problems faced by urban areas. Overflowing dustbins
cause pollution and spread diseases. The smart dustbin uses sensors and microcontrollers to solve
this issue.
1.1 Objectives
• To design an automatic dustbin
• To monitor garbage level
• To improve cleanliness
• To reduce human involvement
CHAPTER 2: LITERATURE REVIEW
Several systems have been developed using IoT and microcontrollers for waste management.
Arduino-based systems are low cost and efficient.
CHAPTER 3: SYSTEM OVERVIEW
The system consists of Arduino Uno, ultrasonic sensor, servo motor, and power supply. The
ultrasonic sensor detects the object and opens the lid automatically.
CHAPTER 4: HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS
• Arduino Uno
• Ultrasonic Sensor (HC-SR04)
• Servo Motor
• Jumper Wires
• Power Supply
CHAPTER 5: SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS
• Arduino IDE
• Embedded C Programming Language
CHAPTER 6: WORKING PRINCIPLE
When a person comes near the dustbin, the ultrasonic sensor detects the distance and sends the
signal to Arduino. The Arduino then controls the servo motor to open the lid automatically.
CHAPTER 7: ADVANTAGES
• Automatic operation
• Hygienic
• Low power consumption
• Easy installation
CHAPTER 8: APPLICATIONS
• Smart cities
• Hospitals
• Shopping malls
• Public places
CHAPTER 9: LIMITATIONS
• Limited sensor range
• Requires power source
CHAPTER 10: FUTURE SCOPE
The system can be integrated with IoT to send alerts when the dustbin is full. Solar power can also
be used.
CONCLUSION
The Smart Dustbin using Arduino is an efficient and low-cost solution for modern waste
management systems.
