We are hoping the Student Council will play a very important role in our school by sharing students ideas, interests and concerns with Mr. Rogers and the school staff. They will also consider fundraising activities and events for students. The MIS Student Council will conduct their own meetings fortnightly during assembly time, take minutes, feed back and discuss issues with their classmates. Congratulations to all children who prepared speeches for elections. a worthwhile experience which impressed everyone. Medical Matters Please find along with this Nanohana our latest medical newsletter from Miyata-san our School Nurse. This provides the latest information on Health Checks as well as a slight change to our policy on communicable diseases. Should you have any concerns or questions after reading the letter, please let us know Hats and Sun Cream As the weather continues to get warmer we would like all children to have a sun hat in school that may be used for break times and outdoor activities. Should you wish your child to wear sun cream please either apply this before school or show your child how to apply it themselves.
K2 Rock!
Assemblies with Character
Congratulations to both K2 and G3 Green for very entertaining assemblies this week. On Tuesday K2 acted out the story Were Going on a Bear Hunt as well as singing and playing cardboard electric guitars! Grade 3 Green did an equally splendid job in their assembly today reminding us the importance of Looking at ones character and valuing each other for being different. Parents Evenings Teachers are looking forward to meeting parents next week to discuss how your child/ren have settled into their new class, their progress and possible targets for the coming year. Such face to face meetings are an excellent opportunity to mention and clarify any concerns or questions you may have regarding your child and gain a better understanding as to our expectations of your child in the coming months. Please appreciate that teachers are under pressure to stick to the allotted time and should you wish for an extra appointment to continue the meeting this can be arranged in the coming weeks. If timings are not kept consistently across the school, this can result in other appointments clashing and much waiting/ confusion. Clubs on Parents Evenings Please note that MIS clubs will be combined on Wednesday and Thursday nights next week for general supervised activities on the field with Mr Gunn/ Mr Rogers. The children will be dismissed as usual unless requested otherwise.
The last fortnight has again seen a number of trips and activities at school.. Last week saw Grade 3 visit Chiba Flower Museum as part of their scientific study as to the parts of a plant and how they reproduce. They also managed later in the week a relaxing cycle trip and picnic along the river. This week has seen both Grade 1 and K2 visit H.C. Anderson Park in Funabashi. Grade 1 were able to make digital clocks in line with their study of Time in maths. They also dressed up and acted in character as part of their English study of Thumbelina. K2s visit today was part of their topic of Food from Around the World. The children were able to look at buildings from different cultures (including a windmill!), cook cookies and make picture frames. MIS Trips remain a valuable and important part of school life and our curriculum. All excursions are linked to our planning and offer a practical side to the work covered in the classroom. On occasion, as with this week, different grades may visit the same location but, as illustrated above, such visits are for different purposes which match their topic and level of study best. As ever, we very much appreciate parent help on these days in addition to the huge amount of work and energy from MIS staff in preparing such days. House points House point results for the week ending Friday May 25th were: Rosso 424, Nila 564, Sari 616 and Midori 508 Well done Sari!!!
Trips Update!
Grade 1 in Costume at Anderson Park
A few reminders about our Open Day on June 14th. Please be advised: A) There should be no photos or vides of children during this day .Some parents do not want their children photographed and it can be very off putting to the children and staff. B) Could parents to please watch lessons quietly at this time. Please understand that your presence will make some children very excited whilst other children will find your presence intimidating and be nervous. By following these rules we hope to offer you the opportunity of seeing a normal day at MIS but also help your children remain focused with the least disruption possible. Thank you.
Office Reminder If your child/ren have to be absent / arrive late / leave school early, please submit the relevant forms to the office beforehand. You can download these forms from the school website. Should this absence be a last minute decision, please call the office by 9:00am. Such information is required for our official records and to ensure the safety of your children. Your vigilance with this is appreciated.

Home Alone? Should your child be cycling home alone, please remind them to be extra careful of cars and other bikes when passing entrances. Yesterday one of our pupils had a minor accident.
