Causes
• Skill Deficits: Students often struggle with the fundamentals
of organization, including a lack of effective time
management, difficulty prioritizing tasks, and
procrastination.
• Academic Pressure: Causes include high self-expectations
and the pressure to excel in STEM, which can lead to
resource overload and decision anxiety. Additionally, gaps in
foundational knowledge make complex STEM tasks more
time-consuming and difficult to master.
Causes
Cognitive & Wellness Issues: The rigorous problem-solving
nature of STEM inherently creates a high cognitive load
(information overload). This is worsened by non-academic
factors like sacrificing work-life balance, leading to stress,
anxiety, and burnout, which further hinders their ability to
focus and manage tasks.
