ABSTRACT
Living in a country where undernutrition is considered endemic is proof that most mothers
struggle to provide proper nutrition to their children. Prevention is better than cure. This study
was conducted to determine the effectiveness of feeding program towards the malnourished
pupils of Lucio Suarez Sr. Memorial School in terms of how does it affects on the nutritional
status and academic grades of the pupils. School Based Feeding Program has been adopted over
the years to alleviate hunger, reduce nutrient deficiency, improving attendance and school
performance, encouraging healthy eating habits and nourishing the growth and development of
the pupils. Peer-reviewed journal articles and studies published in the past 10 years were
identified and screened for inclusion. This study analyzes the significant differences of
nutritional status and academic grade before and after implementing the feeding program. This
study aims to determine if the feeding program affects the nutritional status and academic grade
of the pupils. The results of this study showed that there was a significant difference in
nutritional status of the pupils after 4 months of implementing the feeding program. While in
academic grade of the pupils the result showed that there are no significant differences after
implementing the feeding program. The implication of this study could be used to promote more
nutritional programs for those pupils that are considered as malnourished.
