The lowering of vapour pressure on adding a non–volatile solute in a pure liquid solvent may be
measured by Ostwald–Walker method. In this method, dry air is first passed through a series of
vessels having the solution, then through a series of vessels having pure solvent and finally through
a vessel (normally U–tube) having the absorbent of the solvent. The masses of solution and pure
solvent decreases due to removal of vapours of solvent in the flow of air and the mass of absorbent
increases due to absorption of the vapour of solvent, in order to make the air dry. By measuring the
changes in mass, we may determine the lowering of vapour pressure and hence, the composition of
solution, form Raoult’s Law.

1) If the experiment is performed with aq. AlCl3 solution (α = 0.8) prepared by dissolving 1 mole

in mass of absorbent should be:

38) ⇒ D = 4k2– 4.3(k –2) = 4[k2–3k + 6] > 0 ∀ k ∈ R if k = 2, y = –4x + 3

39)

∴ No positive integer.

40) Sn = n(n2 – 1)
∴ Tn = 3n(n – 1)

41)

42) Let a and b be two positive numbers. H is H.M. and G is G.M.

, Let

⇒ 2x2 – 5x + 2 = 0 ⇒

43) Let g(x) = 3x5 – 50x3 + 135x

g'(x) = 0 for x =
g(1) = 88; g(–1) = –88; g(3) = –216;
g(–3) = 216
Now consider g(x) = a

44)

Tr = tan–1(r + 3) – tan–1(r + 1)

Sum = + – (tan–1(2) + tan–1(3))

Final Answer:
The correct options are (1) & (2).

45)
Graph of f(x)
Now verify alternatives.

46) (B)

(D) log35 > log1925

log35 > 2log195
47)

48)

Integrate

49)

(a)
(b) By graph it is a continuous function
(c) ƒ(x) is many one function
(d) ƒ(x) is into function because range is [0,∞)

50)
Non differentiable at two points.

51) y2 = αx3 – β
if (2, 3) is lie on the curve
8α – β = 9 ...(1)
slope of normal at (2, 3)

⇒α=2

52)

ƒ(x) = sgn(sin2x), x ∈ [0, 3π]

53) ƒ(x) = 2x3 – 27x2 – 60x + 6

ƒ'(x) = 6x2 – 54x – 60
= 6(x2 – 9x – 10) = 6(x + 1)(x – 10)
∴ ƒ'(x) < 0
⇒ x ∈ (–1, 10)
Largest odd integer = 9

54)

Limit exist if a + b – 3 = 0 ........(i)

and

........(ii)
From (i) and (ii)
a = 2, b = 1
∴ a2 + b2 = 5
