Introduction:

Technology has become an inseparable part of human existence,

influencing the way we think, work, and communicate. From
smartphones and smart homes to online education and digital
payments, every sphere of life has been transformed by
innovation.

In this project, I aim to explore how technology shapes everyday

routines, habits, and relationships through the perspective of a
neighbour who has witnessed this transformation over time. The
interview seeks to highlight both the conveniences and the
challenges that come with our increasing dependence on digital
tools.

By analysing this interaction, the project intends to provide a

deeper understanding of how technology not only simplifies our
tasks but also redefines the essence of human connection and
lifestyle.
Purpose of the Interview:

The purpose of conducting this interview was to understand how

technology has gradually altered daily living patterns across generations.
By interacting with a neighbour who has experienced life before and after
the digital revolution, this project aims to capture authentic insights on
how people adapt to rapid technological change.

Through this conversation, the objective was to:

• Examine how technology influences communication, work, and
leisure.
• Understand both the benefits and drawbacks of technological
dependence.
• Explore emotional and social changes brought by digital
transformation.
• Reflect on personal learning from the interviewee’s experiences and
viewpoints.

This interview, therefore, serves as a bridge between personal observation

and broader social realities, revealing how technology impacts not just
lifestyle but also human interaction and thought.
Interviewee’s Profile:

Name: Mr. Ramesh Khanna

Age: 54 years
Occupation: Retired School Teacher
Residence: Same neighbourhood, residing for over 12 years

Background:

Mr. Khanna is a well-respected member of our community, known for his

simplicity and insightful views on life. Having witnessed the shift from
chalkboards to smartboards, handwritten letters to instant messages, and
libraries to search engines, he represents a generation that has seen
technology evolve from luxury to necessity.

His balanced perspective, drawn from both professional and personal

experiences, made him an ideal interviewee for this project on
understanding the impact of technology on daily life.
Interview Process:
To ensure an engaging and meaningful interaction, the interview was
conducted in a comfortable and familiar environment, Mr. Khanna’s home,
allowing the conversation to flow naturally.

Approach and Method:

• The interview was semi-structured, combining prepared questions
with spontaneous discussion.
• Duration: Approximately 30 minutes
• Mode: Face-to-face conversation
• Tools Used: Notebook, smartphone recorder, and observation notes.

Key Themes Discussed:

1. Changes in communication and social behaviour
2. The evolution of education through technology
3. Dependence on digital devices in daily life
4. Benefits and drawbacks of technological advancements

This process provided a candid and reflective understanding of how

technology influences both the practical and emotional aspects of everyday
living.
Key Findings and Observations:
The interview with Mr. Khanna revealed how profoundly technology has
influenced everyday life — often in ways we overlook. His reflections
highlighted both the conveniences and the subtle challenges of the digital
era.
Key Observations:
• Transformation in Communication: From handwritten letters to
instant messaging, connections have become faster but sometimes
less personal.
• Educational Advancements: Learning has become more accessible
through online platforms, yet the essence of face-to-face interaction
is often missed.
• Daily Convenience: Technology simplifies tasks like banking, shopping,
and transportation, saving time and effort.
• Digital Dependence: Overreliance on gadgets can lead to reduced
physical activity and emotional detachment.
• Bridging Generations: Technology enables older generations to stay
connected and informed, fostering inclusion and adaptability.
Overall, Mr. Khanna’s insights underscored a balanced view that
technology, when used mindfully, enhances life but should never replace
genuine human connection. It also makes us aware of Matt Mullenweg’s
Quote.
• “Technology is best when it brings people together.” – Matt
Mullenweg
Analysis and Interpretation:
The interview highlighted a significant shift in how individuals perceive and
utilize technology. Mr. Khanna’s reflections provided an opportunity to
analyse how digital tools influence human behaviour, thought patterns, and
lifestyle choices.

Analytical Insights:
• Balance Between Convenience and Dependency: Technology has
improved efficiency but has also created habits of instant gratification.
• Changing Social Dynamics: While communication has become easier,
emotional depth in interactions seems to have declined.
• Educational Transformation: The digital revolution democratizes
knowledge, yet sometimes at the cost of critical thinking and real-
world interaction.
• Adaptability Across Generations: The willingness of older adults to
learn and adapt reflects the universal appeal and necessity of
technology today.

From this analysis, it becomes evident that technology is neither wholly

beneficial nor detrimental it is the manner of its use that determines its true
impact on daily life.
Conclusion:

The interview with Mr. Ramesh Khanna provided a meaningful insight into
how technology has reshaped daily life from communication and education
to social relationships and personal habits.

It revealed that while technology has simplified countless aspects of living,

it also demands mindful usage to prevent overdependence and emotional
isolation. The conversation reinforced the idea that progress should always
be balanced with human values, empathy, and real-world interaction.

In essence, technology is a powerful enabler, but it is human wisdom that

determines whether it becomes a tool of connection or a cause of
disconnection.

“We must control technology, not let technology control us.”
