Class XII – Half Yearly Examination

Subject: Mathematics
Maximum Marks: 80 | Time: 3 Hours

General Instructions:
1. All questions are compulsory.
2. Use of a calculator is not permitted.
3. Show all steps clearly.
4. Marks are indicated against each question.

Section – A (1 mark each × 6 = 6 marks)

1. If f(x) = cos■¹((1-x²)/(1+x²)), find f(tan θ).
2. Write the range of f(x) = sin■¹(2x√(1-x²)).
3. If A = [[2, -1], [1, 0]], find A■.
4. Evaluate: lim(x→0) (√(1+x) - √(1-x)) / x.
5. Find the principal value of tan■¹(-1).
6. If A = [[1, 2], [3, 4]], write |A|.

Section – B (2 marks each × 6 = 12 marks)

7. Find domain and range of relation R = {(x,y): x²+y²=25, x,y∈N}.
8. Solve for x: tan■¹(3/4) + tan■¹(4/3) = x.
9. Find the adjoint of [[1, 2], [3, 4]].
10. Evaluate determinant: |1 a a²; 1 b b²; 1 c c²|.
11. Differentiate y = ln((1+sinx)/(1-sinx)).
12. Check continuity of f(x)={x+1, x≠1; 3, x=1} at x=1.

Section – C (4 marks each × 8 = 32 marks)

13. Check if relation R={(1,1),(2,2),(3,3),(1,2),(2,1)} on A={1,2,3} is reflexive, symmetric, transitive.
14. Using properties of determinants, prove: |1 cosA -sinA; 1 cosB -sinB; 1 cosC -sinC| = 0 if
A+B+C=π.
15. If A=[[1,2,-1],[2,3,0],[-1,-2,2]], show A²-4A+5I=0. Hence, find A■¹.
16. Prove: d/dx(sin■¹(2x√(1-x²))) = (2(1-2x²))/√(1-x²).
17. If y=tan■¹((1+x)/(1-x)), show dy/dx=1/(1+x²).
18. If y=x^(sinx), find dy/dx.
19. Evaluate determinant: |sin²θ -1 cos²θ; cos²θ sin²θ -1; -1 cos²θ sin²θ|.
20. Show f(x)=|x| is continuous everywhere but not differentiable at x=0.

Section – D (6 marks each × 5 = 30 marks)

21. If f(x)=sin■¹(2x/(1+x²)), prove f(tanθ)=2θ.
22. Using properties of determinants, prove: |a b c; a² b² c²; b+c c+a a+b| = (a-b)(b-c)(c-a)(a+b+c).
23. If y=cos■¹((1-x²)/(1+x²)), show dy/dx=2/(1+x²).
24. Using matrices, solve: x+y+z=6, 2x-y+3z=14, x-2y+z=-2.
25. If f(x)=√(1+sinx), show continuity and differentiability at x=0.
