2.0 DESCRIPTION
WinPlot is a stand-alone utility to allow plotting on a Gerber plotter from Windows programs such as AutoCad
and Corel Draw, which can generate HPGL, DXF, and DWG output. In addition, WinPlot can process Gerber
plot data and cut data files. WinPlot supports HPGL plot files that conform to the 7475 HP plotter
requirements.

3.0 CHANGES SINCE LAST RELEASE

The following change requests and enhancements have been implemented since the last release.

Changes for V9.0.0

XLP plotting

AMMS-1245
Improved bar code plotting for the XLp plotter.

4.0 KNOWN PROBLEMS AND LIMITATIONS

The following limitations are known to exist in V8 software release:

4.1 The full set of DXF and DWG commands is not supported. If a plot is suspected of missing
features, then the contents of the file can be viewed by pressing the “CONTENTS” button in
the WinPlot dialog when the plot file is selected.

4.2 Plot files generated from AccuMark Version 9.0, especially in generic plot format, are not
backwards compatible. Therefore, V9 plot files should not be imported into storage areas
from an AccuMark system on V8.5 and lower. If files are to be plotted on a plotter
workstation, they should be submitted using Winplot V9.0

Windows Vista/Windows 7 Folder Virtualization

With Windows Vista Microsoft has changed where user account profile and program data gets stored.
Instead of storing all profile data under c:\Documents and Settings\ as they did with Windows XP, things
are now split between c:\Users\ and c:\ProgramData\ (on a standard installation).

Under User Account Control, Windows Vista and Windows 7 restrict portions of the Windows file system
and registry. UAC also restricts write operations during normal operation (i.e., standard user mode). For
example, applications no longer have unlimited access to C:\Program Files and C:\Windows. The system-
wide file system and Registry writes are automatically and silently redirected to per-user locations that
won't harm the wider system.

To accommodate existing software for Windows that writes to protected file directories, Microsoft provides
a backward compatibility technology known as Virtualization. Virtualization is often referred to as data
redirection because it functions by funneling attempted access to protected locations to new locations
stored under user profiles. For example, if a legacy application attempts to write to the Program Files
directory, UAC silently redirects that operation to an unprotected user-specific folder.
Windows Vista 32 Bit is supported. Windows Vista 64 Bit is not supported.

* Note: X86 is 32 bit and X64 is 64 bit. Additional files may be needed to be installed by the user.

Windows 8 uses a New Approach with the way such features as .NET are installed. For this reason, you
may need an internet connection to download files from Microsoft.

NOTE: Not all hardware manufacturers release drivers immediately for new operating systems. Please
confirm drivers are available for all hardware being used with your system prior to upgrading to Windows
8.

7.0 PROBLEM REPORTING PROCEDURE
Software Change Requests are to be submitted to the Engineering Product Manager from the Product
Manager using the Software Change Control Procedure.

8.0 PREVIOUS CHANGES

8.5.1 Release

15343
When plotting DXF files using WinPlot some Internal lines would not plot. This issue has been corrected.

15334
Resolved an issue with plot separation always set to zero in plot output when plotting multiple markers,
pieces or files and when plotting one at a time in Marker Plot, Piece Plot and Winplot.
Plot Separation is built into the generic plot files and therefore, the plot separation values from the WinPlot
Configuration will not be used. The separation for generic plot files is created when processing the data as
a plot file.

Note: Plot separation for non-generic plot files is controlled by the top and left value fields.

8.5.0 Release

14286, 13722
After saving the values of Tool Settings such as cut force, cut length, for Silhouette Plotter SP-120 Media, the
values changed to zero. This issue has been corrected and the edited values are maintained.

14244
If PLT files were created on a PAD system and contained only heading information or only label information,
when plotting them in Winplot the software would display an error message "unsupported file type". This
issue has been corrected; these files can be plotted successfully in Winplot.

Support for the XLp Plotter Series is provided by the XLp update for version 8.3.1

8.3.0 Release December 2007

6781
 Corrected communication problems with the Infinity Interface and Multiple Plotter Support.

8351
 Resolved resolution issues in zoom mode for View Cut and View Plot. The zoom allowance is now
limited to prevent the data from appearing to be overlapped.
8380
 With Multiple Plotter Support configured and using WinPlot, it would start multiple wplotter
application. This has been fixed to only launch the one valid wplotter.
8391
 Winplot can now change the number of copies for the plot file request.

8545
 Corrected “unsupported operation” messages when double-clicking on a plot file to open the
properties.
8546
 Preview in WinPlot has been corrected. Previously, it was not working properly.

8557
 Corrected plotter annotation output on pieces. In some instances, the plotter did not output the
annotations of the pieces. In the Plotter Queue, "View" would display an empty window. This has
been resolved.
8799
 WinPlot will now issue an error and stop processing a plot file that has the wrong extension.
Except for DXF - the extension has to be DXF or it will still send a blank file. Incremented
extensions will also not work for DXF.
9222
 Corrected the problem to add plot files in WinPlot. Previously, one plot file couldn't be added if
Chinese name file existed. Now, all plot files can be added to WinPlot.
10163
 Corrected problem with HPGL dos file output. Previously, when a large amount of annotation was
generated, the border annotation was overlapped.

Plot Separation

 A plot separation value between plots and groups

can now be defined by the user. This new
enhancement allows a value to be defined to
separate plots by specifying a value for the left,
right, top, and bottom.

 To select this option, right click over the plotter

icon in the Windows taskbar. Select the
Configuration button in the lower left corner of the
Winplot dialog box. Select the General Tab, set
the plot separation values for Top, Left, Right,
Bottom

 This can also be selected on a “Winplot only”

station.
Restore Default Settings
 A Restore Default Settings function has been
added to the Winplot Configuration tabs. This will restore the original default values if they had
been changed.

Improved the minimum size limit for plot annotation output

 The minimum size of the annotation in plot output has been enhanced in all forms of piece and
marker plot output on Infinity plotters. This includes annotation line and PDS “Annotate Piece” text.

Multiple Plotter Support

 Improvements have been made to allow a user to add Multiple Plotter Support without having to do a
complete software installation.

 Simply execute the program by browsing to the Utility directory of the Winplot CD. Select
“[Link]” to run the program, which will add the necessary entries for Multiple Plotter support
to the system’s registry.

 To disable Multi Plotter functionality run “[Link]-d” at a command prompt to delete the
registry keys. Prior to V8.3.0, once Multiple Plotter Support had been installed, there was no method
to delete it.

Zund plotter advance feature

 The Zund APC-1200 plotter driver has been updated to include an "advance with vacuum" feature.
When pieces are sent to the plotter, it will cut them and then advance the piece area with the
vacuum engaged. This reduces slippage during the advance and ensures that patterns are cut with
the greatest accuracy.

8.2.2 Release January 2007

8385
 When multi plotter support is configured, and the active plotter is changed, the infinity plotter panel
program needed to (re)query the new plotter for its parameters. This has been resolved.

8380
 Running WinPlot interface causes wplotter to stop multiple plotter support. When there are
multiple plotters configured, and a plot is submitted using the winplot interface, a new wplotter
executable was opened. This caused the newly run executable, and one of the already running
executables to stop. It also produced an error in regard to multiple plotters using the same name.
This has been resolved.
6781
 Improved communications with Infinity Interface. The Infinity Interface reported "lost
communications" when used with the Multi Plotter support.

8.2.1 Release July 2006

 Piece annotation in DXF plot files is now plotting in the center of the piece. Previously, it was
printing in the lower left corner of the plot output.

 Corrected problems with HPGL plot files not plotting in Winplot or from AM-Explorer. This has
been resolved.

8.2.0 Release March 2006

 The file extension can now be set in the WinPlot Configuration file and used when Add files to the
plotter.
 When adding plot files to the job queue, the file type is now sticky.
 WinPlot will now send plot files containing bites to the plotter successfully.
 Corrected install problems when the AccuMark installation detected a previous version of Winplot.
The previous Winplot version was not being uninstalled. This has been corrected.
 Added ability to change pen/knife tool head settings on the Wild TA10 plotter. Please contact your
local service support representative for assistance.

 The plotting of Chinese characters in DWG files is now supported.
 When changing the file extension in WinPlot Configuration, it will be used as the filter when
adding/selecting data.
 Registry cleanup of the Spooler entry will be done only once under software/Gerber/conversion.
 Added support for Chinese Annotation in AutoCAD DXF files.
 The option PLOT is available for generic plot files through Windows Explorer.
 Added support for plotting DXF files written in millimeters.

8.1.2+ Release November 2005

 Added support for the new SP-120 plotter driver.

 Significantly improved plot output quality generated by the Investronica P2000 plotter. Consult
the AccuMark Configuration Notes document for details on available drivers.

8.1.2 Release May 30, 2005

 Added the file extension ".gen" to the plot file extension options in Winplot. Now, when browsing
for generic plot files, it is possible to filter out the .gen files in addition to the .ggt files.

 It is now possible to plot HPGL marker data from Investronica. Previously, when importing HPGL
marker files in Winplot, it did not plot from AccuMark and View Plot displayed an empty screen.
This has been resolved.

 Added a “Configuration” button link to WinPlot Config in WinPlot's interface.

 The WinPlot Configuration now allows for a gen or ggt extension on the General tab. If the
computer has the 7.6 WinPlot also loaded, then the [Link] file in Windows32 folder needs to
be renamed to be able to see this change.

 Restored the registry entries and settings necessary to allow users to plot files directly from AM-
Explorer folders. Also corrected problems with folder names that had spaces. These settings
were inadvertently left out when 8.x.x was started.

 Wplotter was enhanced to detect the error condition reported in the plotter queue. Previously,
wplotter was unaware of the error and would continue to send data without flushing its queues, once
wplotter was brought back online. Now, when an Infinity communication error is known, the plotter
queue will display the status “Offline”. Once wplotter has signaled an error, the user should use the
Infinity interface to query the plotter as to the specific error that was generated.

 WinPlot will no longer call any invalid plot file a HPGL file in the error message.

 The drop down list box has been enlarged for the location of the plotters on the Remote Plotter
tab of the WinPlot Configuration screen.

 The drop down window for plotter selection has been enlarged on the WinPlot screen and WinPlot
configuration screen.

 Added the message "Gerber Generic Files can't be scaled" when users want to plot a scaled generic
plot file by WinPlot. Generic Plot file cannot be scaled plotted by WinPlot.

 Corrected ouput problems with DXF files, where the data "[Link] and [Link]"
both had lines at the bottom of the drawing that did not show up in Viewplot or on the plotter.
 The Winplot spooler configuration setting for the designated queue will now remain set and display
properly.

Release 8.1.0 September 30, 2004
 DWG files plot more consistently now.
 Corrected problems with Winplot and missing lines in the output of DWG piece geometry.
Previously, some curved lines in DWG files output unsmooth and sometimes broken lines when
plots were output by WinPlot.
 In old version, Annotation was missing when plot .DRW File from winplot. This is now fixed on V8.1.0
 Specific HPGL plot data was causing the system to stop responding when imported. This problem
has been resolved.
 Corrected the sequencing of plot files based on the order they are selected for Winplot. Previously,
the plot queue did not display the plot files in the order that they were selected.
 In previous version, WinPlot did not give the plot file a name if it was generated with no extension,
and being saved as a DOS file. This problem is now fixed.

Release 8.0.5. December 8, 2003

 Added support for the Zund plotter series: APC-L800 (Zund-L800) and

Release 3.0.1, December 7, 2001

The plotter driver program, [Link], has been enhanced for the Infinity family of plotters to provide
better control of the queue. To take advantage of these features, the following firmware upgrades will
also be required for the plotter; for the Infinity, version 1.5.2 and above, for the Infinity Plus, version 3.1.2
and above, and for the Infinity II, version 5.2.2 and above. Features include…

 Plot jobs now remain in the queue until the plotter has completed the plot and the print head is
returned to the parking station.
 Wplotter can now recognize when the cancel key is pressed at the plotter and thereby deletes
the current job in the queue.
 The plot length, number and name are sent to the plotter at the beginning of each job. This
information can be used to display plot progress on the Infinity II LCD panel.
 Stacked pieces will be removed from the queue as they finish plotting.
 The restart-active function has been corrected.

Winplot has added support for plotting label information

in cut files.

 Cut files processed by Winplot will automatically

output the label information by reading the (S and
M31 codes).
 The piece sequence number will also be output to
the plotter. It may be turned off in the Winplot
Configuration dialog box by checking “Suppress
Piece Numbers”.

Release 3.0.0, October 2001

 A bug existed in previous releases, that when processing very large files, too many vectors could
get put into a single piece within the generic plot file. A fix has been implemented which limits the
number of vectors to 6500 at which point a new piece is started.

 In previous versions, if Winplot was installed on a Windows 2000 system after AccuMark, a
configuration error message would get reported after re-booting. This was due to a change in
configuration file location differences between Windows 95/98/NT and Windows 2000. This
problem has been corrected.

Release 2.2.2, May 11, 2001

 A bug was introduced in version 2.2.1 that resulted in Piece plots and cut files to be displayed
incorrectly in the PlotView utility. This problem has been corrected.

Release 2.2.1, April 11, 2001

 Version 2.1.0 would process some dwg files incorrectly resulting in one or more vectors
incorrectly placed. This has been corrected.
 In previous versions, there was no way to specify a plotter when submitting jobs via the spooler.
By default, they would always go to the local plotter. A plot destination field has been added to
the spooler tab in the Winplot Control Panel.
 In previous versions, the name of the spooler folder could not have spaces. Spaces are now
permissible.
 In previous versions, some systems with the spooler enabled would behave very sluggish and at
times the plotter icon in the system tray would never appear after starting [Link]. This
problem has been corrected.
 The spooler function has been enhanced to process files in the order of creation time.
 A menu choice has been added to the plotter icon menu for the Infinity Interface if the Infinity
plotter is selected. To bring up the Infinity Interface, right click on the plotter icon, and select
“Infinity Interface”.

 Support for line widths greater than a single pen width has been added for dxf/dwg files. This is
accomplished by sending multiple lines spaced about the center line. The number and spacing
of the lines is controlled by the pen width parameter in the control panel-general tab. This value
is expressed in plotter units, which is mils x 10.

 Support for processing of Gerber cut files has been added.

 Enhancements have been made to the Viewplot utility that allow viewing dimensions of the plot.
Features include, point to point measurement, overall plot dimensions and the option to select
imperial or metric units. Metric CM is used as the default.

Release 2.1.1, December 7, 2000

 Support for Infinity II has been added to allow communications to the plotter via a network
connection. Changes were made to both the [Link] driver as well as the Gerber Devices
Control Panel.

 In previous versions of wplotter, occasionally, the PG command would not get sent to the Infinity
plotter between plot jobs. This resulted in the second job getting clipped in the Y direction if it
was wider than the first. This problem has been corrected.

 In previous versions of wplotter, occasionally, the IW command would not be sent to the Infinity
plotter at the start of a plot. This resulted in approximately the first 5 inches to be plotted correctly
followed by a large gap of white space. This problem has been corrected.

 The file extension can now be set in the WinPlot Configuration file and used when Add files to the
plotter.
 In WinPlot the file type is now sticky when Add plot files.
 WinPlot will now send plot files containing bites to the plotter successfully.
 Now, Chinese annotation of cut file can be shown by [Link] position is in the lower-left.
 Sending plt files through winplot is no longer truncating the name back to 8 characters.

Release 2.1.0, September 8, 2000

 In previous versions, a single scale factor was applied to the entire drawing. For this version,
independent scaling for X and Y as well as text has been added.
 Network plotting in a client/server environment has been fixed. For more information on
configuration, refer to the Winplot help under Configuration/Network plotting.
 A history button has been added to the main Winplot dialog box that opens up a history dialog
that is now easier to view and operate than the previous history box.
 The ability to modify plot properties after selection has been added. This allows the parameters
destination, number of copies, and scaling to modified. Double click on the plot file name after it
is in the “Files selected for plotting” box. This will open up a dialog box allowing these values to
be modified.
 Plotting DWG/DXF files exhibited a problem with some files in that pieces of the geometry would
be in the wrong location. This problem has been corrected.
 In the previous version, annotation within a DWG/DXF file would only plot in one orientation
regardless of that specified. This problem has been corrected.
 A bug was introduced in version 2.0.1 that did not correctly handle the IP command in HPGL
files. This has been corrected.
 In previous versions, pressing the ENTER key in the main Winplot dialog box would close
Winplot. This has been corrected.
 In version 2.0.1, pressing the NEW button in the Winplot control panel/remote plotters tab
without specifying a plotter name would crash the control panel application. The NEW button is
now grayed out until a name is entered.
 Additional text support for DWG/DXF files has been added that would previously plot out
formatting information.
 The ability to handle splines for DWG/DXF files has been added.

 In previous versions, generic plot files would not be processed if the system was configured for
network plotting. This has been corrected.
 In previous versions, the character size in HPGL files was not being correctly calculated. This
would result in annotation not being completely plotted that span across multiple bites on the
plotter even though it appeared correct in viewplot. This has been corrected.
 The error message, “unrecognized or unsupported command code “XX” at file offset yyyyy
bytes” has been eliminated for the HPGL commands VS, CA, CS, SS and SA. These
commands, found in many HPGL files, are either not applicable to Winplot or are un-supported.
This eliminates excessive error reporting. All other, less common, un-supported commands are
still reported.
 The “Delete Active” menu choice has been added to the right mouse button click function in the
queue manager program.

Release 2.0.1, March 15, 2000

 The ability to automatically process plot files, referred to as spooling, has been added. Once
enabled, WinPlot continuously scans a designated directory searching for plot files that the user
deposits there. Upon completion, WinPlot deletes the plot file.
 The ability to process dxf and dwg file formats has been added. These formats are standard file
formats generated by AutoCAD and other similar CAD packages.

 The ability to send plots to a remote plotter has been added. Currently this is limited to a peer-to-
peer configuration. A client/server setup is valid but plots may only be sent to the local plotter.
 The user interface has been enhanced. Features include a plot history box, ability to plot multiple
copies of a file, and the ability to select multiple files.
 WinPlot is now compatible with AccuMark so both can reside on the same system.
 A plot log file has been added that maintains a record of all plots processed as well as errors
encountered.
 The plotter configuration section of the WinPlot control panel has been removed and added to
the Gerber Devices control panel in order to make it compatible with AccuMark.

Release 1.3.0, September 22, 1999

 Added baud rate selection to the WinPlot config on the control panel.
 Added support to read the foreign language DLL if it is present.
 Fixed a bug that was causing the “bite length” for the Infinity plotter to be corrupted.

Release 1.2.0, May 10, 1999

 Added support for the Infinity plotter.
 Winplot can now format plot files properly for the Infinity Plotter.
 Added the enq/ack protocol. This protocol is currently only supported by the Infinity Plotter.
 Fixed a bug that was randomly causing plots to be scaled improperly.

Release 1.1.2, October 26, 1998

 Previous versions did not support the HPGL IP command. This resulted in subsequent SC
commands to provide incorrect scaling. This bug has been corrected with the resulting
relationship between the IP and SC commands as well as the input units and scale factor in the
WinPlot config dialog box.

System scale = (scale factor/100.0) * (output units/input units)

Where:
Scale factor and input units are entered through the
config dialog box. The default scale factor is 100.
The default for input units is 1016.
Output units = 10,000.

X-coord = x value * system scale * scale x

Where:
Scale x is the IP scale point divided by the SC
scale factor. The default for scale x is 1.0.

1. Taking these variables into consideration, the following situations occur:

a. With IP and SC commands in the data for a ten-inch box, the plot will be a 10-inch by 10-
inch box.

b. Without IP and SC commands in the data and input units set to the default 1016, the box
will plot at approximately 9.8 inch by 9.8-inch box.

c. Without IP and SC commands in the data and input units set to 1000, the plot will be a 10-
inch by 10-inch box.

 WinPlot will now accept AccuMark generic plot files as input and pass them through to
the WinPlot queue.
 In Plotter Settings, the Tool Mappings box was a feature in AccuMark that is not
supported in WinPlot. This feature has been removed.
 Previous versions of WinPlot only supported a subset of the plotter types supported by
AccuMark. WinPlot now supports the same set of plotters as AccuMark.
