17. Patanjali Yog Sutras highlight the capability of yoga to maintain mental health.
Describe in your words? Model Answer: Patanjali's Yoga Sutras define Yoga as Chitta Vritti Nirodhah—
the cessation of the fluctuations of the mind. This core principle is the foundation for maintaining
mental health. The eight limbs (Ashtanga Yoga) provide a systematic path. Yama and Niyama establish
ethical and moral conduct, reducing mental conflict and guilt. Asana and Pranayama stabilize the body
and regulate the breath, which directly calms the nervous system. Finally, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana,
and Samadhi lead to deep concentration and a state of mental equilibrium. By controlling the Vrittis
(thought waves), Yoga prevents the mind from being overwhelmed by stress, anxiety, and negative
emotions, leading to a state of sustained mental clarity and peace.
18. Discuss important points that should be kept in mind while performing asanas? Model Answer:
Several important points must be considered for safe and effective Asana practice. Firstly, the
practice should be done on an empty stomach or at least 3-4 hours after a meal. Secondly, the
environment should be clean, quiet, and well-ventilated. It is crucial to wear comfortable and
loose-fitting clothes. The practice must always begin with a warm-up and end with Shavasana.
Practitioners should always move into and out of a pose slowly and gently, coordinating movement
with the breath. Never strain or force the body; the principle of Sthira Sukham Asanam (steady
and comfortable posture) must be followed. Finally, individuals with chronic conditions or injuries
should practice under the guidance of a qualified teacher.

Chronic stress, a prolonged state of tension, can stem from various interconnected causes. Work-related
pressures such as excessive workload, long hours, job insecurity, or poor work-life balance are primary
factors. Financial difficulties, including debt or low income, create persistent worry. Relationship
problems, such as conflict with family, partners, or friends, erode emotional support. Major life
changes, even positive ones like moving or marriage, can be stressful if not managed well. Furthermore,
poor lifestyle habits like lack of sleep, poor diet, and insufficient physical activity reduce the body's
ability to cope. Finally, unresolved emotional issues or a pessimistic personality can predispose an

eliminate processed foods, sugary drinks, and deep-fried items. Her diet should focus on fresh
fruits, raw and lightly cooked vegetables, whole grains, pulses, and moderate amounts of dairy.

the stomach is half-full, a quarter with water, and a quarter left empty.
b) Yogic Management: Riya's management should focus on increasing metabolism and reducing
lethargy.
• Asanas: Dynamic Asanas like Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation) to warm up the body, and poses that

fundamental purification techniques in Hatha Yoga, designed to cleanse the body internally and prepare

1. Neti: Cleansing the nasal passages, typically using saline water (Jala Neti) or a thread (Sutra Neti),
to clear blockages and prevent respiratory ailments.
2. Dhauti: Internal cleansing of the digestive tract, including the stomach and esophagus, often by
swallowing a long strip of cloth (Vastra Dhauti) or drinking and vomiting water (Kunjal Kriya).
3. Nauli: A powerful abdominal massage achieved by isolating and rotating the rectus abdominis
muscles, which tones the digestive organs and strengthens the core.

water into the colon while sitting in a water source.
5. Trataka: Gaze concentration, where one stares at a small point or a candle flame without blinking,
to cleanse the eyes and improve concentration.
6. Kapalbhati: A rapid, forceful exhalation followed by a passive inhalation, which cleanses the frontal
sinuses and is also considered a type of Pranayama due to its effect on the breath and mind.
These practices balance the doshas (Vata, Pitta, Kapha) and ensure a healthy, disease-free body.
