Orbits and Orbitals
Art - Integrated Project

Abstract
Bohr's Model: Electrons orbit nucleus in fixed paths (orbits).
Modern Model: Electrons don’t follow fixed paths. They exist
in orbitals — regions of high probability described by quantum
mechanics.
Electrons behave like both particles and waves, so their exact
position can’t be pinpointed. Instead, we use electron clouds to
describe where they’re likely to be found.
Through the tale of Electra and Cloudius, I transformed a
quantum chemistry concept into a playful, child-friendly
narrative. This project integrates storytelling and visual art to
make science both accessible and enjoyable for young learners.

Prepared by Sudarshan Roy, 18, XII-A under the guidance of Mrs. Sumona Chaterjee.
Orbits, what are they? An orbit is like a track or race
path around the nucleus, where
an electron was believed to
keep running in circles.
Once upon a time, in the teeny-tiny Atom,
there lived a fast and zappy little girl
called Electra the Electron.
She had sparkling brown shoes and loved
running in circles.
Her best friends were Nucleus Nana (the
wise old center of the atom) and two
Proton bodyguards, always cheering her on.
Nana: “Electra dear, keep running on your
circle-path! That’s how atoms have always
worked.” Electra: “Wheeee! I’m orbiting
around you like a race car!”
An orbital is like a fuzzy cloud
surrounding the center of an atom
Orbitals, what are they?
where an electron might be

believe in boring old circles. I’m all about buzzing
around anywhere!”
Electra: “What do you mean? I thought I had to run
on this circle!”
Cloudius: “Nope! You can zip, zap, and zoom wherever
inside me! You’re not a race car… you’re a lightning
bolt!”
Electra stepped off her boring ring and leapt into the
fluffy cloud.
Electra: “Wooo! I can go up, down, sideways, and
hide too! I’m free!”
Nana: “Well, I guess it’s time I update my science.
Welcome to the 21st century, dearie.”
They all laughed, and Electra zoomed through the
cloud like popcorn in a microwave.

Conclusion-
Back in the day, scientists
thought electrons were like
planets running on tracks.
But now we know they behave
more like buzzing bees in a
cloud.
That cloud is called an orbital.
Not a track, not a ring, just a…
fluffy mystery zone!
Thank You!
