Research Project Guidelines for Education

The document describes the essential elements of a research project, including an introduction, theoretical framework, methodology, timeline, and bibliographic references. It provides examples of how each section should be structured and what information should be included in each to clarify the topic, objectives, methods, and planning of the research.

RESEARCH PROJECT

There is no single model for research projects, due to the diversity of types of
researches and interests. However, it is possible and necessary to establish some points.
that serve as a guide for the research, considering that it must be flexible and
adapted to the specificity of the research, its purposes. The model presented here,
was developed with education research in mind.

1- Introduction: the introduction can be developed in the form of text or by topics. In both cases,
models should include the theme; the delimitation of the theme; the objectives: general and specific;

justificativa da pesquisa; problema de pesquisa.

A) Theme and delimitation of the theme: the subject that one wishes to develop and the conceptual delimitation.
geographical and spatial nature of the reality that one wants to research or understand.

B) Objectives (what is intended with the research)

General: explicitly stated in a global manner

Specifics: breaking down the general objective into smaller ones, which may constitute chapters.
in the development of the research.

The definition of the objectives determines what the researcher wants to achieve with the realization of the
research work. Objective is synonymous with goal, end. Some authors separate the
General Objectives and Specific Objectives, but there is no rule to be followed.
Regarding this, other authors consider it unnecessary to divide the Objectives into categories.
A trick for defining objectives is to start them with a verb in the infinitive:
clarify this; define this subject; look for that; allow that other thing,
demonstrar alguma coisa, etc. (Pedagogia em Foco – Internet)

C) Justification: According to Gil (2002, p. 162):

This is an initial presentation of the project, which may include:

• factors that determined the choice of the theme, its relation to the experience
professional or academic background of the author, as well as their connection to the thematic area and one of
research lines of the graduate course;
• arguments regarding the importance of research, from a theoretical point of view
methodological or empirical;
• reference to your possible contribution to the knowledge of a certain issue
theoretical or practical or still unresolved.

D) Research Problem: (What is intended to be analyzed): to precisely state what one wants to know about
researched reality. It can be formulated as a question.
According to the site[Link] access in August 2005:

The problem is the driving spring of all research work. Once defined the
A theme raises a question to be answered through a hypothesis, which will be
confirmed or denied through research work. The problem is created by the very

define the scope of your research. There are no rules for creating a Problem, but
some authors suggest that it should be expressed in the form of a question. Particularly,
I prefer that the problem be described as a statement. Example: Theme: Education
of the woman: the perpetuation of injustice. Problem: The woman is treated with submission by
society.

2- Theoretical Framework: it is the survey of solutions already provided to the researched problem, where it should

a text will be elaborated on the main conclusions that the authors reached on the subject. Gil
define the literature review as follows:
This is the section dedicated to the theoretical contextualization of the problem and its relationship with
what has been investigated about you. It must clarify, therefore, the assumptions
theoretical frameworks that support the research and the contributions provided by
previous researchers. This review cannot consist solely of references or
synthesis of the studies conducted, but by critical discussion of the 'current state of the issue'. When
this part may be presented as an independent chapter,
shortly after the introduction (2002, p. 162).

3- Methodology: this item should specify the data collection techniques or instruments
of research (With what?), subjects (With whom?) and types of research (How to do it?), forms of
data analysis (with what criteria to analyze?) The methodology should clarify how it will be
developed the work:

The methodology is the detailed, rigorous, and precise explanation of all actions.
developed in the method (path) of research work. It is the explanation of the type of
research, of the instrument used (questionnaire, interview, etc.), of the expected time, of the
team of researchers and the division of labor, the forms of tabulation and processing of
data, finally, of all that was used in the research work. (Pedagogy in Focus,
Internet

4- Schedule: expected time for each stage of research depends on the type of research and
its purpose.
