PROCEDURES OF MAKING 40 LITRES OF LIQUID SOAP

1. Dissolve a 1/4 g of Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS) and 1/4 g of Sodium

Metasilicate using roughly 1.5L of water into two different buckets

before the beginning of the process of making liquid soap.

2. Pour 5L of water into a big bucket, pour 1kg of Ungalo followed by 1kg

of salt + 1/2kg of Soda Ash. Stir thoroughly until the solution turns

milky. Leave it for 5 minutes.

3. In a separate bucket, pour 11/2 jug of water then pour 1/2kg of Sulphonic

Acid. Carefully pick 2 well labelled tea spoons of Caustic Soda and add.

Stir thoroughly to dissolve the materials. Bubbles of a colorless gas will

be released.

4. Pour content in procedure 3 into the content in procedure 2. Stir for

about a minute.

5. Pour 250g of KDS (Foam booster) into the content in procedure 2, stir

for about 1 minute.

6. Pour the content in procedure 1 into the content in procedure 2. Stir

for about 1 minute

7. Pour water in a basin 3/4 way. Add 125g of Carboxymethyl Cellulose

CMC bit by bit while using your hands to make it dissolve into the

water until it’s fully dissolved. Pour the content into the content in

procedure 2. Then stir until it makes the soap thick and well

distributed.

8. Pour little water into a jug, then pour colour and shake for it to dissolve

then pour the content into the content in procedure 2, stir thoroughly

for about 1 minute.

9. Pour 5 bottle-tops full of formalin into the content in procedure 2, stir

thoroughly for about 1 minute.

10. After 10-15 minutes, come back and stir again for uniformity of the

chemicals during reaction.

11. Leave the set-up for 12 hours in order for it to bring the original

liquid soap for use.

12. Before packaging, pour perfume and stir thoroughly then package

the liquid soap in sizeable containers.

KEY

 Sulphonic acid is the surfactant that breaks down the surface

tension between water and dirt for effective cleaning. It’s also the

ingredient that kills germs.

 Caustic soda is used to neutralize the acid with the aid of a litmus

paper

 SLS also acts as a surfactant that creates rich lather and enhances

the cleaning power of soap by effectively breaking down oils and

dirt allowing water to easily rinse them.

 SLS and KDS are for foaming.

 Metasilicate breaks hard water.

 Formaline is a preservative.

 CMC is a thickener
