Class 9 Mathematics Test Paper - Solutions

Maximum Marks: 80 | Time: 3 Hours

Section A (1 mark each)

1. Two irrational numbers between 5 and 6:

√26, √28

2. (x^2 + 5x + 6) - (x^2 - 3x + 2) = 8x + 4

3. Vertically opposite angles are equal.

4. In ∆ABC, ∠A = 40°, ∠B = 60°. So ∠C = 80°.

5. Quadrilateral whose diagonals bisect each other at right angles but are unequal: Rhombus.

6. Semi-perimeter of triangle with sides 7, 24, 25:

s = (7 + 24 + 25)/2 = 28 cm

Section B (2 marks each)

7. 0.\u030536 = 36/99 = 4/11

8. If x = 2 is a zero of x^2 - 4x + k, then 4 - 8 + k = 0 → k = 4

9. Parallelogram with one angle 60° has angles: 60°, 120°, 60°, 120°

10. Triangle sides 13, 14, 15. Heron's formula:

s = (13+14+15)/2 = 21
Area = √[21*8*7*6] = √7056 = 84 cm^2

11. If ∠P + ∠Q = 100° in ∆PQR, then ∠R = 80°.

12. (Figure-based example answer) If AB ■ CD and ∠APQ = 50°, ∠PQR = 70°,

then corresponding ∠QCD = 60° (based on given configuration).

Section C (3 marks each)

13. Three irrational numbers between √2 and √3:

√2.1, √2.2, √2.5

14. If x = -1 is a zero of x^3 + 2x^2 - 5x - 6:

Divide by (x + 1) → quotient x^2 + x - 6 = (x - 2)(x + 3)
Zeros: -1, 2, -3

15. Proof (brief): Sum of angles in a triangle = 180° (use parallel line through one vertex and alternate inte
rior angles).

16. Diagonals of a rectangle are equal and bisect each other (parallelogram properties + congruent triangles).

17. Triangle sides 26, 28, 30:

s = (26+28+30)/2 = 42
Area = √[42*16*14*12] = √112896 = 336
Altitude on smallest side (26): h = (2*Area)/26 = 672/26 = 336/13

18. Divide 2x^3 + 3x^2 - 2x - 3 by (x + 1):

Quotient = 2x^2 + x - 3, remainder = 0

Section D (4 marks each)

19. Show 3 + √7 is irrational:

If 3 + √7 were rational, √7 = (3 + √7) - 3 would be rational → contradiction.

20. Factorize x^3 + 3x^2 - 4x - 12:

(x^2)(x+3) - 4(x+3) = (x+3)(x^2 - 4) = (x+3)(x-2)(x+2)
