History
NAPA Community Based Organization started in 2015 by young women and girls living in
Orore along the Lake Victoria Region. The women faced a number of challenges and most of the
household chores and duties were left for them by their husbands and parents. There was high
number of HIV/AIDS infections, school dropouts, teenage pregnancies as women and girls were
involved in commercial sex to enable them meet their daily needs. Education for the female
gender was poor by around 40% of the girls dropping out of school yearly.
The organization started by community development through capacity building which focuses on
empowering communities to identify their own needs and create sustainable solutions. The
organization involved in training community members on their rights and how to engage with
local government. For the past 10 years, we have had training on health reproductive issues for
girls and women, provision of sanitary pads to school going girls and uniforms to the vulnerable
to enhance retention of girls in school.
For the last 5 years the organization have been training girls and women to be economically
empowered which in turn enables them to make wise decisions and meet their social needs.

Activity details ( Purpose, Beneficiaries and Scope)
Purpose
To purchase two more sewing machines that will enable us to train more women and girls to
meet our target of 10 women and girls trained after every 6 months. This aims to provide women
and girls with vocational skills that lead to economic empowerment through sustainable
livelihoods, poverty reduction, and improved quality of life. This will be achieved through teach
practical and employable skills in sewing, garment creation.- for creating income through self-
employment or formal jobs, which allow participants to meet daily expenses, improve their
families' living conditions, and foster a sense of pride and confidence.
Beneficiaries
The direct beneficiaries of the tailoring project will be 20 women and girls every year that will
include school dropouts, single mothers, unemployed women, widows, and young women in
need of vocational skills. Indirect beneficiaries will be their families; the earnings from tailoring
will lead to an improved quality of life, better nutrition, access to healthcare, and the ability to
pay for children's school fees and the wider community; as women gain skills and economic
independence, they may start their own businesses, join cooperatives or Sacco’s, contributing to
the local economy and potentially creating jobs for others.
Scope
The primary objective is on socio-economic empowerment, which will provide women and girls
with valuable, practical skills for sustainable livelihoods, financial independence, and enhanced
self-confidence. The project targets to train 20 women and girls every year. The project will
ensure stakeholders commitment. This will involve a variety of activities, such as identifying and
prioritizing stakeholders, mapping their relationships, and tailoring communication methods and
the level of involvement to ensure successful collaboration and project outcomes.
Impact
The project will create significant positive impacts for 20 women and girls by providing them
with vocational skills that lead to increased income, financial independence, and improved living
standards for their families. It will also foster entrepreneurship, build self-esteem and confidence,
and contribute to broader community development by creating a cycle of empowerment and role
modeling. Specific benefits include the ability to produce affordable sanitary pads, which can
improve school attendance for girls.
