- It would be better for companies at least to have a SWOT analysis before making decisions on

innovation. Here we correspond Strength to weakness and opportunities correspond to threat

- AI-Driven Product Design

Generative AI enables trend-responsive and customizable designs. For example, Nike uses AI to
create customized shoes, often collaborating with athletes to ensure a human touch.
However, relying too much on AI might lead to a loss of authenticity. AI-generated designs can
feel impersonal, so balancing AI creativity with human oversight is critical to retaining brand
identity.

- Operational Efficiency in Production

Generative AI can optimize resources, minimize waste, and shorten lead times. Adidas' speed
factories, for instance, leverage automation to improve efficiency and reduce production costs,
ultimately increasing ROI.
On the downside, these advancements require significant capital investment, making it
challenging for smaller companies to implement. Scaling such technology globally also adds
logistical complexity.

- Enhanced Customer Engagement

AI enables personalized marketing, boosting customer engagement. Under Armour, for
instance, uses data from its MyFitnessPal app to offer personalized recommendations, fostering
stronger customer relationships.
The drawback? The effectiveness of this approach depends on high-quality data. If the data is
inaccurate or incomplete, it risks damaging trust and reducing engagement.

- Cost Savings in Design and Marketing

Automation with generative AI significantly reduces costs. Puma, for example, uses AI tools to
cut marketing expenses they use google cloud’s imagen 2 model to personalized website images
tailored to the locations of online shoppers (shoppers in different country will have different
image) – also using the e-commerce will reduce the cost of marketing, reinvesting the savings
into employee re-skilling programs.
However, automation also creates skill gaps and raises unemployment concerns. Companies
must address this challenge by reskilling their workforce and creating new career opportunities.

Next, the opportunities versus threats

-  Deep Personalization in Recommendations and Designs

Generative AI enables companies to provide highly personalized recommendations and designs,

enhancing customer satisfaction and loyalty. For example, Nike Plus offers tailored shopping
experiences with transparent data handling. By ensuring data security, Nike builds trust with its
customers and strengthens its position in a competitive market. However, this level of
personalization comes with the threat of privacy concerns. Mishandling customer data or
security breaches could harm the company’s reputation, so robust data protection measures are
essential to maintain trust.
-  Sustainability Initiatives

AI adoption supports sustainability by minimizing waste and pollution, aligning with global
environmental goals. For example, Patagonia emphasizes eco-friendly practices and transparent
sourcing, which sets it apart in a crowded market. Sustainability not only appeals to
environmentally-conscious consumers but also enhances a brand’s reputation. On the other
hand, as more companies adopt sustainability practices, the market becomes increasingly
saturated. To stand out, companies must innovate and find unique ways to differentiate
themselves from competitors.

-  Scalable and Personalized Advertising Campaigns

Generative AI enables companies to run scalable, personalized advertising campaigns efficiently,

reaching broader audiences with targeted content. For instance, Adidas uses AI to create
customized ads that incorporate its iconic branding elements, such as the three stripes, ensuring
consistency and a strong connection with its brand identity. However, AI-driven advertising
raises intellectual property (IP) concerns. Misuse or imitation of proprietary designs can dilute
brand value. Companies must protect their IP by emphasizing distinctive and recognizable brand
elements in their campaigns.

-  Rapid Prototyping and Trend Adoption

AI allows companies to accelerate prototyping and iterate designs quickly, helping them stay
ahead of emerging trends. For instance, Nike's Innovation Kitchen uses AI to develop agile
prototypes, allowing the company to adapt rapidly to shifting consumer demands and launch
innovative products faster. The challenge, however, lies in the rapid evolution of AI technology
itself. Companies must remain agile and continuously invest in innovation to keep pace. Falling
behind in technology adoption could result in a significant loss of competitive edge.
