Instructor
Leonardo García
Leonardo Garcia is a professional in the field of computers for more than
for 20 years, of which the last 4 years have been dedicated to repair at a level
electronic laptop motherboards.
Born in Venezuela, Leonardo has lived in the United States, Uruguay, and currently
he is in Argentina with his wife Leslie for more than 12 years and their three children
little ones: Larissa, Lucas, and the newborn Liam.
He is passionate about teaching and is also a musician. You will see him every Sunday as
volunteer in the production team of Hillsong Church Buenos Aires.
Leonardo Garcia utilizes methodologies that require no prior experience by starting from basic concepts of electronics and repair techniques. The course structure is designed to build knowledge incrementally, beginning with introductory modules on essential tools and fundamental electronics, followed by guided practices and real-life troubleshooting examples. This approach accommodates beginners by developing their skills step by step with the help of detailed video demonstrations and live tutoring sessions .
The course teaches specific steps for diagnosing a laptop motherboard failure through several modules, including how to solder and desolder components and identifying signals, resistances, and shorts. Practices focus on equipment not turning on, having consumption but not displaying video, and specific BIOS faults. The course provides strategies for detecting shorts and repairing shorted cards, emphasizing practical exercises supplemented by theory .
The course "Professional in Repair Laptops" provides fundamental knowledge in electronics, repair techniques, and the tools necessary for laptop repair. Additionally, it includes learning about the architecture of portable computers and how to detect and fix motherboard failures as well as issues with the charger, battery, screen, and backlight .
In the course by Leonardo Garcia, the BIOS plays a crucial role as it is central to booting and overall system functionality. The course covers how to program the BIOS system and the Embedded Controller (EC), considering issues related to BIOS faults as part of the startup sequence practices. Understanding and working with the BIOS is an integral part of diagnosing boot problems and ensuring proper system initialization in laptop repair .
Leonardo Garcia's extensive experience in computer repair, particularly at the electronic level, shapes the course content through its focus on component-level repairs and practical, hands-on training. His 20+ years in the field, with a particular emphasis on laptops, inform a teaching style that prioritizes real-world application and a step-by-step approach starting from foundational electronics to complex troubleshooting scenarios. His passion for teaching is reflected in the course's comprehensive coverage and engaging video materials that simplify intricate concepts .
The course integrates complex electronic concepts such as MOSFETs and capacitors through detailed instruction in the fundamental electronics module, which covers electrical charges, voltage, current, and specific components like MOSFETs, capacitors, inductors, diodes, and transistors. The course includes practical examples, such as using P-channel and N-channel MOSFETs in charger control systems, to help students apply theoretical knowledge to real-world repairs .
The course addresses the challenge of short circuits by providing a dedicated module on short detection, where students learn what causes shorts, their impact, and how to repair shorted cards. Specific practices include troubleshooting shorts on various voltage lines, such as 3V, 5V, and 19V, and understanding approximate values of lines to aid in identifying the issue. This comprehensive approach ensures students can effectively locate and resolve short circuits, which are common problems in laptop repair .
Understanding the architecture of portable computers is crucial for effectively diagnosing and repairing complex issues at the component level. The course addresses this by teaching about the PCH and its operational requirements, including identifying different power sources like RAM, CPU, and GPU voltages, which allows students to comprehend how components interact and affect overall system function. This deep understanding is essential for accurately diagnosing and repairing faults, such as those in the startup sequence or when power rails malfunction .
The course emphasizes crucial tools such as soldering stations, laboratory power supplies, microscopes, oscilloscopes, BIOS programmers, multimeters, solder, and flux. These tools are extensively covered in early modules to ensure students become proficient in their use. Training sessions include detailed demonstrations on how to properly handle these tools while disassembling laptops, soldering and desoldering components, and diagnosing electronic issues. This ensures students are well-equipped to undertake repairs with confidence and efficiency .
The course ensures practical understanding through extensive hands-on practices, where students work through realistic scenarios like diagnosing non-functioning laptops, managing power issues, resolving BIOS faults, and fixing video display problems. These exercises are paired with theoretical lessons that explain the underlying principles, allowing students to apply their learning directly. Additionally, the module on short detection provides specific practices for dealing with short circuits on various voltage lines, fostering comprehensive practical troubleshooting skills .
