System Development life cycle

In today's fast-paced digital landscape, organizations rely heavily on software

systems to drive business operations, enhance customer experiences, and stay
competitive. The System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) provides a
structured framework for developing high-quality software systems that meet
user requirements and expectations. Effective software development requires a
systematic approach that considers multiple factors, including stakeholder
involvement, continuous evaluation, and risk management. The SDLC ensures
that software systems are thoroughly tested, validated, and meet user
requirements, resulting in improved quality and increased efficiency.

The System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) is a structured approach to

designing, developing, testing, and implementing software systems. It provides
a framework for organizations to deliver high- quality systems that meet user
requirements and expectations. SDLC it is a framework used to plan, design,
develop, test, and implement software systems. It provides a structured
approach to ensure that systems meet user requirements and are delivered on
time, within budget, and with desired quality.

9
To implement SDLC effectively, organizations must establish clear goals and objectives, define
scope and requirements, allocate resources, and monitor progress. Effective project management
and communication are vital to ensuring that SDLC principles are applied consistently
throughout the development process.

Phases of system development life cycle (SDLC):

1. Planning phase

The Planning Phase is the initial stage of the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) for
designing software. This phase sets the foundation for the entire project, ensuring that all
stakeholders are aligned and that the project is [Link] of the Planning Phase the
primary objective of the Planning Phase is to define project scope, goals, and deliverables for
software development. This phase involves identifying software requirements, conducting
feasibility studies, defining project scope, developing project schedules, establishing budgets,
identifying stakeholders, defining project risks, and developing communication plans.

In the Planning Phase, the project team conducts a thorough analysis of the software
requirements, including functional and non-functional requirements. The team also conducts
feasibility studies to determine the technical, economic, and operational viability of the project.

The project scope is defined, including inclusions, exclusions, and boundaries. A project schedule
is developed, outlining timelines, milestones, and deadlines. The budget is established, including
resource allocation, personnel, and materials.

Effective communication plans are developed to ensure that all stakeholders are informed and
engaged throughout the project. Identifying stakeholders is crucial, as it ensures that everyone
who needs to be involved or informed is accounted for, fostering collaboration and minimizing
misunderstandings.

2. Analysis stage

The Analysis Stage is the second phase of the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC), following
the Planning Phase. This stage focuses on gathering and analysing requirements to create a
detailed understanding of the software system.

The primary objective of the Analysis Stage is to gather and analyse requirements, creating a clear
understanding of the software system's functional and non-functional [Link] the
Analysis Phase, the project team conducts requirements gathering through stakeholder
interviews, surveys, and observations. They then analyse these requirements for completeness,
consistency, and feasibility. Data flow modelling and entity-relationship modelling are used to
visualize system processes and define relationships between data [Link] Analysis Phase
produces a comprehensive Software Requirements Specification (SRS) document, which outlines
the software system's functional and non-functional requirements. The SRS document serves as a
blueprint for software development, ensuring that the system meets stakeholder needs and
expectations. The outcome of the Analysis Phase is a clear, comprehensive, and unambiguous
understanding of the software system's requirements. This understanding serves as the basis for
the Design Phase, where the software architecture and system components are designed

3. Design phase

The Design Phase is a critical stage in the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) where the
focus is on creating a detailed design for the software system. This phase serves as a bridge
between the Analysis Phase and the Implementation Phase.

The primary objective of the Design Phase is to create a detailed design for the software system,
outlining the architecture, components, interfaces, and data structures. This phase involves
transforming the requirements gathered during the Analysis Phase into a tangible [Link]
the Design Phase, the project team creates:

[Link] architecture: Defining the overall structure and organization of the system. User
interface design: Creating UI prototypes and mock-ups. Data design: Defining data structures,
databases, and data relationships.
[Link] design: Designing individual software components.
[Link] design: Defining interactions between components.
[Link] integration design: Planning integration with external systems.

4. Developement Phase

The development phase is a critical stage in the SDLC where the actual software development
takes place. This phase involves translating the design documents and specifications created
during the design phase into functional code. During this phase, the development team writes
the code, tests, and integrates the various components of the software. The development
process typically involves: writing code in a programming language such as Java, Python, or
C++ Creating databases and integrating them with the application Developing user interfaces,
such as web pages or mobile apps implementing security measures to protect user data
Integrating third-party libraries and APIs Testing and debugging the code to ensure it meets
requirements. Some of the key activities performed during this phase include: Code reviews to
ensure quality and adherence to coding standards unit testing to verify individual components
function correctly integration testing to ensure seamless interaction between components
system testing to validate the entire software system Debugging to identify and fix defectsthe
output of the development phase is a functional software product that meets the requirements
specified in the design phase. This software is then passed on to the testing phase for further
evaluation and validation.

5. Integration and test phase

The integration and testing phase is a critical stage in the SDLC where the individual
components developed during the development phase are combined and tested to ensure they
work seamlessly together during this phase, the software is verified to ensure it meets the
specified requirements, works as expected, and is free from defects. The integration and testing
