1 GENERAL
1.1 SCOPE
The scope of this design basis report (DBR) is intended to cover the design of solar module mounting
structures for multiple project site located in Maharashtra.
As per IS:875 Part-3 the wind speed considered for the project location is 44m/s.
MMS table size of 2x30 and 2X15 with 2 modules in Portrait orientation inclined towards south at 15deg fixed
tilting.
Dead load consists of the weight of the structure, solar modules, fasteners, etc.
All structures shall be designed for wind forces in accordance with IS:875(part-3) and as specified in this
document. The evaluation of the design wind speed and pressure will be made on the basis of the following
parameters:
Terrain category = 1
Topography factor, k3 = 1
Importance factor , k4 = 1
= 1.3 x 3 = 3.9 m2
The wind analysis shall consider the wind direction relative to the structure and both external and internal
pressure as applied to the windward and leeward sides of the structure.
The following basic load cases shall be considered for the analysis;
Earthquake Load : EQ
Dead Load : DL
Wind load : WL
Load combination for design shall be the one that induces the maximum forces and effects and consequently
the maximum stress from the following combinations of loads.
3 DESIGN METHODOLOGY
3.1 MATERIALS
Grade of structural steel as per IS-2062:2011. Galvanization specification shall be as per IS-4759:1996.
3.2 CONNECTIONS
Bolts diameter will not be less than 8mm. All structural bolts are of grade HDG 5.6 and module mounting
bolts are SS-304 grade.
3.3 FOUNDATIONS
Columns shall be embedded into the pile. The depth of the pile is fixed based on soil report and design
calculations.
The permissible deflections of various steel members under normal loading conditions shall be limited as
specified below:

Purlin - Module
IS 800.2007 M8 SS304
Purlins are connected to Module by SS-304 bolts. These bolts are primarily in tension and hence shear forces
are negligible.
