Kodak DryView 8150 LASER IMAGER – Network Conflict Problem
Installation and Configuration Instructions
The Problem
It is possible that the Kodak DryView 8150 LASER IMAGER will be placed in a
customer environment where the network settings for the IMAGER must be on the
10.1.x.x subnet. This poses a problem for the IMAGER with version 1.0.1 software
because the IMAGER also internally uses the 10.1.x.x subnet for the communications
from the DRE to the MCS. This conflict causes communication errors between the DRE
and the MCS resulting in 10-910 errors. The IMAGER will be inoperable.
The purpose of these instructions is to document the procedures necessary to overcome
this issue.
Overview of the Procedures
The main component in this solution is the use of a ROUTER to isolate the IMAGER
from the customer’s 10.1.x.x environment. The ROUTER used in this procedure is a
NetGear RP614 – Cable/DSL Web Safe Router Gateway. Some of the information in
these instructions is specific to only this particular ROUTER (like the user
name/password, configuration screens, etc.). Other routers can be used as long as they
are configured similarly.
The NetGear ROUTER can be ordered from Spare Parts or purchased locally. The Kodak
part number is SP5F2786.
The main steps in this procedure are:
1) Configure the ROUTER’s internet (WAN) IP address, subnet, gateway, and DNS
servers to the settings assigned to the IMAGER by the customer’s IT department
(for example: IP Address of [Link]). This is the address that the customer’s
modalities will be using to target the IMAGER for printing.
2) Configure the ROUTER’s private (LAN) IP address to [Link] along with the
IMAGER’s network settings to this 192.168.1.x subnet (for example: IMAGER
IP Address of [Link]). This is necessary because the ROUTER defaults to
the 192.168.0.x subnet which is already used by the IMAGER’s Service Port.
3) Change the IMAGER’s DRE-to-MCS PPP IP address to something that doesn’t
conflict with anything on the customer network. The DRE-to-MCS PPP IP
address is configured at the factory as [Link]. If this setting conflicts with the
customer’s network, it needs to be changed (for example, PPP IP of [Link]).
Note that the subnet must always be 10.1.1.x.
4) Add persistent routes to the IMAGER in order for it to properly work in the new
router environment and settings. These routes are documented in the procedures
that follow.
Tools
A LAPTOP COMPUTER is the only tool required.

Steps to Configure the ROUTER and IMAGER
1. Unpack the ROUTER.
2. Connect power to the ROUTER.
3. Connect the LAPTOP COMPUTER to LAN Port 4 on the ROUTER.
2
Kodak DryView 8150 LASER IMAGER – Network Conflict Problem
4. Configure the LAPTOP COMPUTER network setup to be DHCP.
5. Browse to [Link] from a browser on the LAPTOP COMPUTER.
6. Enter “admin” for the user name and “password” for the password. (Note that this
assumes a NetGear RP614 ROUTER. For other routers, you may not have any
username/password or different usernames and passwords.)
3
Kodak DryView 8150 LASER IMAGER – Network Conflict Problem
7. Select “No, I want to configure the router myself” and press [Next].
4

8. In the “Internet IP Address” section, enter the network setup (including DNS
servers) assigned to the IMAGER by the customer’s IT department and press
[Apply]. The following screen is an example.
Note: If the customer uses DHCP, then select “Get Dynamically from ISP” in the
“Internet IP Address” section. Important! It is generally not good to specify
DHCP because many of the modalities target Imagers use specific IP addresses
and those modality settings would need to change if the Imagers’ IP address
changes due to the DHCP server.
9. After the update is done, select “LAN IP Setup” from the left menu pane. The
following screen will appear.
5

a. In the “LAN TCP/IP Setup” section, change the “IP Address” to

b. In the “Use Router As DHCP Server, change “Starting IP Address” to
[Link] and “Ending IP Address” to [Link]
c. Press [Apply].
The following screen will appear.

d. Perform an “ipconfig /renew” in a DOS window on the LAPTOP
COMPUTER:
10. Browse to [Link] from a browser on the LAPTOP COMPUTER (enter
the username “admin” and the password “password” as needed).
7

11. From the left menu pane select “WAN Setup”
a. Enter [Link] in the “Default DMZ Server” field.
b. Check the “Respond to Ping on the Internet Port” check box.
c. Press [Apply].
12. From the IMAGER Local Panel, configure the IMAGER’s network setup to be:
a. IP Address: [Link]
b. Subnet Mask: [Link]
c. Default Gateway: [Link]
13. Connect the IMAGER LAN connection to the ROUTER’s LAN Port 3.
14. Change the PPP IP address in the IMAGER (Note: this is the IMAGER’s PPP
serial link between the DRE and MCS). The default is currently [Link]. If this
address is already used, it must be changed. This can be changed by logging into
the desktop and modifying the MCS1 network connection to specify something
else. The new IP address must be 10.1.1.x where x is between 2 and 255. Pick an
IP address that will not be a conflict with the customer’s network. For example:
[Link]. (See Appendix A - Steps to change the PPP IP Address).
15. Shutdown the IMAGER and then power it up again.
8

16. Once the IMAGER starts up and comes to ready, add the following persistent
routes to the IMAGER’s routing table (See Appendix B - Steps to Add the
Persistent Routes):
a. route -p add [Link] mask [Link] DV8150_GATEWAY
b. route -p add [Link] mask [Link] DV8150_GATEWAY
c. route -p add [Link] mask [Link] PPP_IP
Where:
DV8150_GATEWAY = [Link] (from step 12 above) and
PPP_IP = [Link] (or whatever was picked in step 14 above).
Example:
route -p add [Link] mask [Link] [Link]
route -p add [Link] mask [Link] [Link]
route -p add [Link] mask [Link] [Link]
