Internal Assessment Project
Introduction to Consumer Rights
Consumers are individuals who buy goods and services for personal use. Consumer rights are the
set of laws that protect consumers from unfair trade practices.
In India, consumer rights are safeguarded by the Consumer Protection Act 2019, which replaced
the earlier 1986 Act.
Why Consumer Rights Are Important
Consumer rights ensure fairness in the marketplace by preventing cheating, fraud, and unsafe
goods.
They empower consumers to make informed decisions and raise their voices against exploitation.
Major Consumer Rights
1. Right to Safety — Protection against hazardous goods and services.
2. Right to Be Informed — Access to accurate information about products.
3. Right to Choose — Ability to select from a variety of goods at fair prices.
4. Right to Be Heard — The right to file complaints and be considered.
