Network Certification Process Explained

Network certification is a process that ensures that the network installation complies with regulations and standards. Each point of the network is examined to provide information on its performance and potential failures. A network certifier is used to check connectivity, measure noise, bandwidth, and issue a report. Certification increases the lifespan of the network and provides greater security by ensuring compliance with regulations.

Network Certification
The certification of the wired computer network is the process used to guarantee 100%
of the operation of the installation and that all the official regulations are complied with.
This process generates an official and legal document that certifies the validity of the computer network in the
moment of its implementation.

This certificate will vary depending on the type of material used, that is, it will not be granted
the same testing standards for a CAT6 type cable as for a CAT5e type cable or
Fiber Optics. When the certificate of the computer network is issued, each point of the
network and provides us with information about the functioning or failures that may occur in the
cabling or network devices.

To carry out a valid certification, it is necessary to have the necessary instruments and that they
complies with current regulations, as well as its proper functioning. This type of
devices must undergo a series of tests at regular intervals to ensure their proper functioning
functioning.

Installation
The usual process is once the wiring is installed following the recommendations:

Wiring of the appropriate category,

Quality connectors.
Electrical pipe passage

Network certification process

Use a Network Certifier. Check the connectivity of the cabling, measure the noise and the
bandwidth capacity and emit a report.

Probe: the equipment comes with a probe to connect at one end, generally in
the patch panel.

Type of Standards:

TIA/EIA-568-B
ISO/IEC 11801
EN50173
IEEE802.3 10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, 1000BASE-T
Cable categories
The quality of the cable is measured by its category. The minimum you typically find nowadays is
CAT5e. Although if it's a new installation, it would be advisable to use CAT6 or
superior.

CAT1 to CAT4 are not recognized by TIA/ETIA.

CAT5 is up to frequencies of 100MHz, FastEthernet.

Cat5e would also support Gigabit.

The Cat6 category is for frequencies of 250MHz. This is the one that is usually installed already.
in new installations.

Cat6a for 500MHz, used in 10Gbps connections.

CAT7 is less common to see; it would be the one that supports 600MHz according to the ISO-11801 standard.
it also supports 10000Mbps

Cat7a is reserved for frequencies of 1000Mhz according to the ISO-11801 Ad-1 standard of 2008.
Supports 10Gbps and higher.

Category 8 would support 2000MHz and 40Gbps

Characteristics that Network Certifiers can have

Length measurement of the cable.
Cut detection and where it is
Measure of return loss
Measurement of attenuation (insertion loss)
Propagation delay (Skew)
TestBER
Latency Test (PING)
Detonator generator (To detect where a cable passes)

Brands of Network Certifiers

Fluke Networks: Perhaps it is the best-known manufacturer, it has very reliable equipment and a
quality more than proven.
JDSU: JDS Uniphase Corp. is a California-based company founded in 1999.
IDEAL NETWORKS LANTEK: Less known, but also with a quality standard.
high.
The importance of the Latguillos
It is of no use to certify a network with all the guarantees if the protocols used are not
they do not meet any standards. That is why it is always advisable to buy them made and not by
saving wanting to do all the things. It's not worth it either for the time or for the problems
subsequent.

Both the patch panels and the connection between the sockets and the equipment: should be done with
high-quality latguillos. This is a point sometimes forgotten, which can cause pain.
posterior heads.

Using colors to differentiate the wiring is also highly recommended. Separate with colors.
the backbone of the structured cabling, or the DMZ of the internal network, can help us avoid making mistakes
later.

Levels to measure quality

To check the quality of a local network, we can only Qualify, Verify, or Certify.
1.- Qualification of the Network

This measure is taken when the network owner, who already has a deployment, wants to
add new configurations or applications, for which the qualification will verify the
parameters that are desired.
The qualification is more economical. Because it does not end up analyzing the entire network and all its
applications, but it gives an assessment of their status. The qualification is not a certification and does not
ensures its proper functioning

2.-Verification

This practice verifies the extent of the network, the mapping, and its branches.
Verification confirms the proper connection of cables and sockets, but not the technical data.
These have to do with the quality of communications and their speed.

The tools for verification do not store the obtained results, and are also used to
certificate.

3.- Certification

It is possible to certify the installation process of a fiber optic or copper network, to know if
meets the technical standards. Also to know if they comply with the regulations
internationally established in these cases.

The quality of the data that circulates, the security with which that information moves. Also, the
stability of the connection, the speed of it.
This process is the most recommended.

Advantages of Certifying a Network

Increases the useful life. Having been verified with a network certifier, it can last
up to more than 15 years operational. This depends on having reviewed the suitable management of the network.
Verify that there are no noises or issues with the wiring and the use of the conduits.
required, among other aspects.

A verified network provides greater security because it complies with the regulations.
Standards. External factors such as electrical discharges or interference will be minimized.

The certification helps to resolve and rule out any issues that arise at the wiring level.
It removes the uncertainty from us, is it the wiring? No, the wiring is not. Since we have checked it.
And unless it is an extreme case, it is unlikely that it has been damaged. These cases could be a bite from
cable by rodent, peeled by the sun, or cable burnt by contact with overheating
electric

The network certification should go beyond a simple requirement or procedure. It should include
both the analysis and its respective diagnosis at a technical and visual level. This goes from the review
from the quality of the cable to the connection.

We can conclude that the level of trust in a computer network is given by these.
factors. It will greatly contribute to effectiveness and speed. That is, with levels
