Topic: An example of a difficult decision you had to make.
During our life, we are incessantly be put in situations which require us to make up our
mind. Most of the time, the decisions we made just revolve around some daily and basic
problems such as what to wear or what to do next. That is not always the case, however. The
choice of university once forced me into a furious mind battle in which extremely careful
consideration must be made. Like many other Vietnamese students, grade 12 was a very crucial
stage as I was left in front of an awful lot of pathways and none other than myself who had to
decide on which path to take. At that point, I was between with two options. The first option
was to accept the direct offer from TDT university. The other one was to keep on waiting until
HCMUE announce its admission results. I was caught in a real dilemma, indeed. If I chose the
offer, I would not have to worry so much about my upcoming university anymore but that was
synonymous to me giving up my dreamt school. ‘My score on the national entrace exam was
not bad at all so it may grant me a place in HCMUE, should or should not I turn the offer
down?’, I thought to myself for days. Things became intense when TDT sent an email requesting
a prompt confirm from me. At the end, I decided not to reply the offer and patiently waited for
the next fortnight for HCMUE’s result. Things could not be more thrilling since my score stood
right on the admission threshold. When I realized that I had made the right decision, rather
than jumping for joy, I breathed a huge sigh of relief. From that experience, it dawned on me
how tough a decision can be and regardless of whether I receive advice from someone, I am the
only one who take full responsibility of it.
Topic: Telling lies. The cause and effect.
Since childhood, every kid is taught that speaking the truth is forever a morally accepted
behavior while telling lies violate the morality. Still, dishonesty remains in human’s conversation as
sometimes lies are not meant to harm but help the others. Just as the motives behinds lying can be good
or bad, the effect of this act can be both positive and negative depending on the circumstance. Contrary
to popular belief, people may lie for altruistic intention. Lying of this kind is called white lie. White lies
are so oftenly found in hospital where doctors have a tendency to distort the patients’ medical status.
When confronting terminally-ill patients, doctors try their best to evade the truth and comfort the ill
that they will recover soon. Doing this helps patients to never lose their hope and live the rest of their
lives without too much grief. Unfortunately, lying for good reasons counts for the minority. Most of the
time, people lie to merely benefit themselves. Lying help people to hide their own ugly sides which may
tarnish their reputation. Telling lies also helps to conceal all the faults they made. Thus, they would not
receive critics or reprimands from others. Corrupted politicians in the government are such example.
Being dishonest exerts strong influences on both the liars and the ones who receive lies. People are easy
to have a guilty conscience whenever they lie. As a result, they would lead a more stressful life than
people who often tell the truth. For the receivers, they will lose faith in that person and find it very hard
to maintain the once beautiful relationship. However, if people know how to take advantages of white
lies, they can actually save someone’s life. Again, everything relies on the situation. In short, the cause
and effect of telling lies vary from person to person and this adds ambiguity in people’s lives.
Topic: We usually have arguments with our best friends. What do you do to make up with Nguyen?
In a relationship, especially with your partner, it is of complete normal for you two to have your
twists and turns. These fundamental steps will help you and your partner burying the hatchet after the
unavoidable conflicts and disagreements. First of all, be the one who stay quiet. Most of the time, fights
occur as none of the two is are willing to be the listener. Keep stating your personal position will only fill
the conversation with anger and negative energy which eventually worsen the situation. Bear in mind
that you are not participating in a debate competition. Thus, there is no point in proving that you were
right. Secondly, give each other private time and space to reflect on the problem. People are more easy
to ward off their anger when being on their own. As a result, you will gather enough wisdom to realize
that the issue was not worth costing your relationship and nothing but an apology would be the best
option. Finally, be the first to talk it out, especially when you are male. Being the first person to say sorry
or just simply strike up the conversation will send signals to your partner that you have lowered your
ego and are willing to make up. Realizing your regret and how much you value the relationship, chances
are he/she will forgive and make peace with you. Additionally, you and your partner can remind one
another of the beautiful memories you shared with or the very first time you met. Sometimes, what
your relationship lacks is the original emotions. By following the given procedure, you will have for
yourself a better approach after having arguments with your loved one.
