CHAPTER-1
INTRODUCTION

1.1 GENERAL

Augmented reality (AR) has emerged as a powerful technology that overlays

digital information onto the physical world, providing users with immersive and
interactive experiences. In recent years, AR has gained significant attention for
its potential applications in various fields, such as gaming, education, healthcare,
and navigation. In the realm of navigation, AR offers a novel approach to
displaying real-time directions and route information within a user's line of sight,
enabling safer and more intuitive guidance. Unlike traditional navigation systems
that display information on a separate screen, AR-based navigation projects
directions directly into the driver’s view, helping them keep their attention on the
road. This advancement marks a pivotal shift towards safer and more efficient
navigation solutions that are particularly valuable in busy or high-risk driving
environments.

AR-based navigation systems leverage advanced hardware and software to

enhance the user experience and promote safer driving practices. By integrating
sensors, microcontrollers, and heads-up displays, these systems create an
interface that minimizes distractions, reduces the need for handheld devices, and
provides drivers with accurate, real-time route guidance. In this project,
augmented reality is paired with Gemini AI, an artificial intelligence system that
enables dynamic route adjustments and predictive navigation insights. This
fusion of AR and AI presents an innovative approach to reducing driver
distractions, enhancing focus, and ultimately improving road safety for a wide
range of users, from everyday car drivers to motorcyclists and cyclists who
benefit significantly from hands-free navigation

1
1.2 PROBLEM STATEMENT

Despite the widespread use of GPS and mobile-based navigation applications,

traditional systems pose several safety risks. Conventional navigation requires
drivers to glance at screens, taking their eyes off the road to view directions,
which can lead to distractions and increase the likelihood of accidents. In high-
traffic or complex road environments, these brief moments of distraction can have
serious consequences. For motorcyclists and cyclists, who have limited access to
dashboard screens, the need to look at handheld devices for directions presents
even greater challenges and risks. Studies show that driver distractions contribute
significantly to road accidents, with navigation-related distractions being among
the primary causes. Therefore, a safer, hands-free navigation solution is essential
to prevent such risks.

In addition to the issue of visual distractions, traditional navigation systems

often lack the capability to provide real-time updates based on immediate changes
in road conditions, such as sudden traffic jams or construction zones. This
limitation results in outdated or less efficient routes, leading to delays and
increased frustration for drivers. In dynamic urban environments where
conditions change rapidly, navigation systems must be able to adapt instantly,
ensuring that drivers receive the most current and relevant information. The
proposed project aims to solve these issues by providing a hands-free, AR-based
navigation solution that integrates with Gemini AI to deliver real-time updates
directly within the driver’s field of vision, promoting both safety and efficiency.

1.3 OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT

The primary objective of this project is to design and develop an AR-based

navigation system that enhances driver safety by reducing the need for physical
interaction with navigation devices. By leveraging Gemini AI for real-time
navigation updates, the system offers an intuitive solution that projects route

2
information onto AR glasses, directly within the driver’s line of sight. This setup
allows drivers to access essential navigation data without looking away from the
road, minimizing distractions and enabling them to maintain focus on their
surroundings. The system aims to provide several key benefits:

Enhancing Driver Safety: The project’s central goal is to reduce driver

distractions by providing hands-free, visual navigation assistance. By eliminating
the need for frequent glances at screens, this system supports safer driving
practices and minimizes the risks associated with distracted [Link]

system offers dynamic route adjustments, enabling drivers to avoid delays and
hazards. Gemini AI processes real-time data, such as traffic conditions and road
closures, to ensure that drivers receive up-to-date navigation instructions. This
feature enhances the system’s reliability and makes navigation more responsive
to changing conditions.

Supporting Motorcyclists and Cyclists: The AR navigation system is

especially useful for motorcyclists and cyclists, who have limited access to
traditional navigation devices while on the road. By projecting route information
within their line of sight, the system enables them to access navigation data safely,
keeping their hands on the handlebars and eyes focused ahead. Improving Focus
and Reducing Cognitive Load By presenting information in a clear, easy-to-
understand format directly in the driver’s view, the system reduces cognitive load,
making it easier for drivers to process navigation cues quickly. This design
supports better decision-making and enhances overall driving comfort, especially
in complex traffic scenarios. Promoting Safer Navigation Practices in Dynamic
Urban Environments: This AR navigation system is designed to adapt to the
dynamic conditions of urban roads, where traffic, construction, and other factors
frequently affect navigation routes. The integration with Gemini AI allows the

3
system to provide intelligent routing, making it particularly suitable for urban
environments where real-time data is essential for efficient travel.

1.4 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT

The significance of this project lies in its potential to transform traditional

navigation practices and establish a new standard in driver assistance technology.
By utilizing augmented reality to project directions within the driver’s field of
vision, the system addresses the pressing need for safer navigation solutions that
reduce driver distractions and increase road awareness. Furthermore, the
integration of AI-powered real-time navigation enables the system to respond
dynamically to road changes, offering a user experience that goes beyond
conventional GPS devices. This AR navigation solution is particularly impactful
for high-risk road users, such as motorcyclists and cyclists, whose safety depends
heavily on continuous attention to the road.

As roads become increasingly congested and drivers face more complex

traffic situations, technology that can assist without distracting is crucial. This
project aligns with the broader goal of enhancing road safety and represents an
innovative approach to minimizing risks associated with traditional navigation
systems. By providing a safer, hands-free solution, this AR navigation system not

CHAPTER 2

LITERATURE REVIEW

2.1 ANALYSIS OF EXISTING LITERATURE

[1]AI-driven navigation systems have revolutionized how drivers interact with

road environments by leveraging real-time analytics and advanced algorithms.
These systems combine machine learning and big data to offer adaptive route
planning, personalized driving assistance, and improved accuracy. AI-powered
navigation predicts traffic patterns, enabling users to avoid congestion and
minimize travel time. For instance, Google's DeepMind AI integration into
navigation platforms demonstrates the potential of predictive models to forecast
traffic up to an hour in advance. Additionally, dynamic hazard alerts, such as
roadblocks or accidents, are delivered promptly, helping drivers make informed
decisions. These advancements ensure not only user convenience but also
enhanced safety by reducing the risks of navigation-related distractions.

[2] Real-time hazard detection in augmented reality (AR) navigation is a

breakthrough in improving road safety. By integrating sensors like LiDAR and
cameras with machine learning, these systems identify risks such as pedestrians,
other vehicles, or obstacles. Algorithms process visual data to provide immediate
alerts, overlaying warnings on AR displays. An example includes Tesla’s
Autopilot AR-assisted hazard detection, which demonstrates how AI predicts
potential collisions in urban and highway environments. The key advantage lies
in its ability to function in varying conditions, such as low light or adverse
weather, ensuring continuous and reliable performance. This proactive approach
significantly reduces accidents by keeping drivers informed of potential threats
in real time.

5
[3] Wearable AR devices, like smart glasses, are redefining navigation by
providing hands-free, heads-up displays. These devices project real-time
directions, speed limits, and alerts into the driver’s field of vision, minimizing
distractions. Technologies like Google Glass and Microsoft HoloLens are
pioneering this space, offering intuitive interfaces for navigation. Tests conducted
on wearable AR navigation show a 20% improvement in driver reaction times
compared to conventional GPS systems. By integrating voice commands and eye-
tracking capabilities, these systems allow seamless interaction, making them
especially useful for motorcyclists and cyclists who lack dashboard-mounted
devices. This innovation is setting a new benchmark for safe and immersive
navigation experiences.

[4] Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication enhances AR navigation by

enabling vehicles to interact with infrastructure, other vehicles, and even
pedestrians. V2X provides real-time updates about traffic, road hazards, and
construction zones, allowing AR systems to display contextual information. For
instance, Audi’s pilot project with V2X-enabled AR navigation showcased
reduced travel times in smart cities by 30%. Furthermore, V2X enhances safety
through cooperative communication, warning drivers of impending dangers like
sudden braking by nearby vehicles. By fostering a connected driving ecosystem,
V2X communication, combined with AR navigation, is paving the way for
intelligent transportation systems.

[5] Gesture-controlled interfaces offer an innovative solution to reduce driver

distraction while interacting with navigation systems. By using sensors like Leap
Motion or Microsoft Kinect, drivers can perform simple hand gestures to zoom
in on maps, select routes, or dismiss alerts without touching a device. Research
by Wang et al. (2022) highlights the efficiency of these systems, which resulted
in a 15% reduction in navigation-related distractions during trials. Gesture control

6
also supports customization, such as adjusting AR display brightness or switching
between modes. This hands-free interaction aligns perfectly with AR navigation’s
goal of enhancing user focus and safety.

[6] Holographic displays in AR navigation systems are transforming the way

information is presented to drivers. Unlike conventional flat displays, holograms
project 3D navigation instructions directly onto windshields, creating a more
immersive and intuitive experience. For instance, BMW’s futuristic Holo Active
Touch system allows holographic route guidance integrated with touchless
controls. These displays adjust to environmental lighting, ensuring visibility even
in bright sunlight or at night. Holographic AR systems reduce the need for
secondary screens, streamlining the driving experience and significantly lowering
distraction rates. This advancement demonstrates the future of in-car navigation
technology

[7] AI-powered personalized navigation systems adapt routes based on user

behavior, preferences, and driving history. For example, AI algorithms analyze
patterns like frequently traveled routes, preferred speeds, and peak driving hours
to create tailored navigation experiences. Systems like Waze utilize
crowdsourced data and machine learning to offer personalized traffic alerts and
route suggestions. This level of customization not only improves travel efficiency
but also enhances user satisfaction. As AI becomes more sophisticated, these
systems can predict destinations without user input, offering a seamless and
intelligent navigation experience.

[8] Accident prevention systems that combine AR and IoT have proven highly
effective in reducing road hazards. IoT sensors in vehicles and infrastructure
provide real-time data on traffic flow, weather, and road conditions. AR overlays
this data onto the driver’s display, highlighting potential risks such as slippery

7
roads or sudden stops ahead. Toyota’s AR-IoT system is a notable example,
where predictive algorithms warn drivers of imminent collisions. Field tests show
an 18% reduction in accident rates when these systems are deployed. This
integration ensures proactive safety measures, helping drivers avoid risks before
they escalate

[9] Smart helmets equipped with AR technology are becoming essential in

hazardous work environments like construction and mining. These helmets
provide real-time visual overlays, such as safety warnings, navigation paths, and
task instructions, directly in the wearer’s field of vision. Reddy et al. (2023)
demonstrated how AR-integrated helmets reduce workplace accidents by 25%
through timely alerts. Features like gas detection sensors, live communication
with supervisors, and head-mounted cameras make these helmets invaluable for
worker safety. This technology bridges the gap between safety and efficiency,
ensuring optimal performance in high-risk industries

[10] Dynamic traffic updates in AR navigation systems leverage AI and IoT to

provide real-time guidance. By analyzing live traffic feeds, road closures, and
congestion levels, these systems dynamically adjust routes to minimize delays.
For example, Garmin’s AR-enabled navigation system integrates cloud-based AI
to display alternative paths directly on the driver’s HUD. Tests show a 25%
improvement in travel time when dynamic updates are used compared to static
GPS routes. This feature not only saves time but also contributes to smoother
traffic flow, highlighting the efficiency of real-time AR navigation.

[11] AR-Enabled Traffic Monitoring and Navigation Systems

The integration of AR with AI-powered traffic monitoring to optimize navigation
in real-time. It explores how AR overlays traffic updates and route modifications
directly onto a driver’s field of vision, reducing the need for manual inputs. The

8
system leverages IoT-enabled sensors to gather live data and provide proactive
alerts for road hazards and congestion, resulting in enhanced safety and efficiency.

[12] Context-Aware Augmented Reality for Navigation

The project focuses on context-aware AR systems designed to adapt navigation
instructions based on environmental factors such as weather, traffic density, and
user preferences. By combining AR and machine learning, the system provides
dynamic updates and predictive suggestions for safer and more efficient route
planning. The study underscores the potential of context-aware technology in
personalizing the driving experience.

2.2 CHALLENGES IDENTIFIED

The development of an augmented reality (AR) navigation system involves

several technical and practical challenges. One significant issue is the reliance on
real-time data for AI-powered decision-making. This requires robust datasets and
high-quality sensors for accuracy, which can be difficult to achieve in dynamic
environments like urban roads. Weather conditions, such as fog, heavy rain, or
low light, further complicate sensor performance, leading to reduced detection
efficiency. Another critical challenge lies in processing and delivering real-time
updates with minimal latency. AI algorithms require substantial computational
power, which can strain hardware systems like the ESP32. Moreover, wearable
AR devices face constraints such as limited battery life, user comfort, and display
visibility under varying lighting conditions. Ensuring a seamless and intuitive
user experience on these devices remains a key hurdle.
Privacy and security concerns are also prominent due to the need for collecting
and processing user data for route optimization and personalized navigation.
Integrating V2X communication poses additional difficulties in maintaining
stable connectivity and handling data exchange efficiently in rapidly changing

9
traffic scenarios. Finally, the risk of false positives or negatives in hazard
detection could undermine user trust and system reliability. Addressing these
challenges requires a balanced approach to hardware design, software
optimization, and user-centric solutions to ensure the system's robustness and
functional

2.3 OBJECTIVES OF THE WORK

The main objective of this project is to create an Augmented Reality (AR)

navigation system that integrates Gemini AI to improve driving safety and overall
navigation efficiency. By utilizing AR technology, the system will overlay
critical navigation information directly into the driver’s field of vision, reducing
distractions and enhancing situational awareness. One key goal is to leverage AI-
powered dynamic routing to adapt to changing road conditions, offering
personalized route suggestions based on real-time data like traffic and weather.
Furthermore, the project aims to enhance safety by incorporating real-time hazard
detection through sensors and AI, providing timely alerts for obstacles,
pedestrians, or sudden traffic changes. The system’s design will prioritize
seamless integration of hardware and software, such as AR glasses, GPS sensors,
and the ESP32 microcontroller, ensuring smooth data flow and reliable
performance. Lastly, the project aims to deliver an intuitive user interface with

10
CHAPTER 3

EXISTING AND PROPOSED SYSTEM

3.1 EXISTING SYSTEM

Traditional GPS-based navigation systems have long been a staple in vehicles

and smartphones, relying on GPS receivers, digital maps, and processors to
compute driving routes. These systems function by determining the vehicle’s
location through satellite signals and comparing it with preloaded map data to
calculate the best route to the destination. They typically provide driving
directions via audio and visual cues, with information displayed on in-car screens,
smartphones, or standalone GPS units. While effective in guiding drivers to their
destination, these systems present significant limitations, especially in terms of
driver safety and ease of use. One of the primary drawbacks is driver distraction,
as most systems require drivers to look away from the road to view the navigation
instructions. Whether it’s a smartphone screen or an in-car display, the need to
take eyes off the road increases the risk of accidents, particularly in fast-moving
or complex driving environments.

Traditional systems also tend to struggle with making dynamic route

adjustments. While real-time traffic data can reroute drivers to avoid congested
areas, the systems often fail to respond quickly enough or provide the best
alternative routes. Drivers are still largely responsible for managing the flow of
information, which can lead to confusion, especially when sudden road closures
or accidents occur. Furthermore, traditional navigation systems tend to lack
personalization. These systems typically suggest routes based on general
algorithms, considering traffic, distance, and road types without taking into
account the driver’s personal preferences or past driving habits. The result is a
one-size-fits-all approach, where the system offers the same route to every driver,

11
regardless of whether it aligns with their individual preferences or comfort levels.
The reliance on visual displays is another notable limitation. Whether in the form
of smartphone screens, dashboard displays, or standalone GPS units, the need for
drivers to focus on small screens, often cluttered with detailed maps or
instructions, poses a challenge.

This is particularly problematic when visibility is low, such as in heavy rain,

fog, or at night. Finally, the connectivity requirements of traditional GPS
systems are often a problem. Many rely on internet access to provide real-
time traffic updates, which can be unreliable in areas with weak or no cellular
coverage. In such cases, the system may not provide accurate routing
information, leaving the driver without the benefits of real-time data.
Furthermore, the cost and complexity of high-end navigation systems, such
as augmented reality (AR) HUDs, make them out of reach for many drivers,
leaving a significant portion of the driving population without access to
cutting-edge navigation technologies. These limitations in traditional GPS
systems highlight the need for more intelligent, integrated solutions that
enhance safety, reduce distractions, and adapt to real-time road conditions

3.2 PROPOSED SYSTEM

Overlay navigation instructions in the driver's field of view to minimize

distractions from the road. Design an intuitive interface positioned within the
driver's natural line of sight for effortless assimilation of navigation details.
Utilize AI-driven data from the GEMINI server for real-time updates on road
closures. The proposed system is an augmented reality (AR) navigation solution
utilizing Gemini AI to enhance driver safety by displaying navigation instructions
directly within the driver’s line of sight. Unlike traditional navigation systems
that may require drivers to look away from the road, this AR-based system offers

12
real-time, hands-free guidance, allowing drivers to maintain focus on their
surroundings. ESP32 Microcontroller: Serves as the central processing unit,
managing Bluetooth connections and handling data received from the Gemini AI
server for navigation.

Gemini AI Server Provides real-time route information and updates, which are
sent to the ESP32 and displayed in the AR view AR Glasses with Heads-Up
Display Project navigation directions and alerts in the driver’s field of vision,
eliminating the need to look at a separate screen. Facilitates wireless
communication between the driver’s mobile device (for setting destinations) and
the ESP32, enhancing ease of use. This proposed system provides a safer,
intuitive alternative to conventional GPS navigation, making it particularly useful
for motorcyclists, cyclists, and other drivers who need accessible, in-view
directions.

By overlaying navigation instructions directly in the driver's field of view, the

system reduces the need for drivers to glance away from the road, thereby
minimizing distractions and enhancing overall safety. The intuitive interface
aligned with the driver's natural line of sight allows for quick and easy
assimilation of navigation information. Enhanced Safety by projecting directions
directly into the driver’s line of sight, the system reduces the need for drivers to
look away from the road, minimizing distractions and lowering the risk of
accidents. The system uses Gemini AI to provide real-time updates on routes,
traffic conditions, and potential hazards, helping drivers make better-informed
decisions. With directions visible in AR glasses, drivers can keep their hands on
the wheel and focus on driving, which is especially useful for motorcyclists and
cyclists.

Improved Focus by displaying information in an easy-to-understand format, the

system helps drivers quickly process navigation cues without added mental load,
enhancing attention and responsiveness. The AR interface is designed to be

13
intuitive, allowing drivers to follow directions seamlessly without confusion.
Unlike traditional GPS devices that may require glancing at screens or listening
to voice prompts, this AR system keeps drivers’ attention on the road, making
navigation safer and less intrusive. The system’s flexibility allows for the
integration of additional features, like machine learning for personalized routes,
holographic displays, and compatibility with autonomous vehicles. Overall, the
AR navigation system provides a safer, more intuitive, and efficient driving
experience.

response. Once the response is received, the system parses it to extract
relevant data. This process is repeated in a loop, continuously checking for
and processing Bluetooth prompts.

FIGURE 3.3 AI GEMINI SERVER TO AR GLASS DISPLAY

The provided flowchart outlines the functional principle of an ESP32-

based system that interacts with a Gemini AI API. The system begins by

16
initializing the ESP32 microcontroller and configuring Bluetooth
connectivity. It continuously checks for incoming Bluetooth prompts, and if
a prompt is received, it reads the content. The prompt is then transmitted to
the Gemini AI API, where an HTTP request is constructed, specifying the
appropriate URL and headers. The request is dispatched to the API, and the
system waits for a response. Upon receiving the response, it is parsed to
extract relevant data, which is subsequently transmitted via AR TX. AR TX
sends the parsed data wirelessly to AR RX, which then displays the content
in the AR Glass. The system then returns to the loop, perpetually checking
for new Bluetooth prompts, maintaining continuous interaction with the
Gemini AI API and AR Glass display.

3.4 WORKING PRINCIPLE

The proposed system leverages the GEMINI API for real-time navigation
and augmented reality integration using the ESP32 microcontroller. The
ESP32 serves as the main controller and manages both the input and output
operations. Using Bluetooth, drivers input navigation prompts, which are
then transmitted to GEMINI AI for processing. Once GEMINI AI computes
the optimal navigation route, it sends the data back to the ESP32. The ESP32
then overlays the navigation instructions onto the driver’s field of view using
augmented reality. Configure Wi-Fi ensure the ESP32 is connected to a Wi-

3.7 COMPARISON OF ACCIDENT RATE

FIGURE 3.5 PREVIOUS SYSTEM

FIGURE 3.6 PRESENT SYSTEM IN FUTURE

20
Graph 1: Accident Rate by Year (Previous System)

This graph spans from 2019 to 2022 and illustrates the variation in accident
rates over the years, demonstrating both the limitations of existing safety systems
and their inability to counteract emerging challenges effectively. In particular,
there is a visible decline in accident rates during 2020, likely caused by decreased
road traffic due to global lockdowns. However, as road traffic resumed, the
accident rate saw a rebound in the following years, with an upward trend observed
in 2021 and 2022. This could be attributed to increasing driver fatigue, distracted
driving, and the limitations of current systems to provide real-time hazard
warnings or adapt to changing traffic dynamics. Moreover, the data points to the
fact that conventional systems cannot adequately address emerging road safety
challenges such as complex urban traffic, unexpected obstacles, and driver
behavior patterns.

The fluctuation in the accident rates over the observed period reinforces the
pressing need for an advanced navigation and safety system that can consistently
reduce accidents. The system in use in the years observed fails to account for the
fast-changing dynamics on roads and lacks the adaptive technologies that could
help prevent accidents. A more intelligent system, integrating sensors, AI
algorithms, and real-time data, could offer more proactive alerts and enhance the
safety of the driver and other road users.

Graph 2: Accident Rate by Year (Present System in Future)

This graph projects a significant improvement in road safety following the

implementation of the advanced navigation system from 2025 to 2029. The
accident rate, which has historically fluctuated, is forecasted to steadily decrease
as the system matures and becomes more widespread. This is primarily due to the
integration of augmented reality (AR), AI-driven analytics, and vehicle-to-
everything (V2X) communication in the system. These technologies work

21
together to provide real-time hazard identification, dynamic routing based on live
traffic data, and driver behavior analysis, which can prevent accidents before they
occur.

By 2025, the proposed system is expected to demonstrate its full potential in

reducing accidents. The projected decline in the accident rate reflects the
effectiveness of such a system in preventing accidents through proactive
measures such as warning drivers of potential hazards in real-time, adapting to
driver behavior, and providing smarter navigation. Unlike traditional systems that
primarily offer passive navigation or post-incident responses, this advanced
system uses predictive capabilities that analyze the surrounding environment,
recognize dangerous conditions, and suggest alternative routes to avoid collisions.
Additionally, with AI and machine learning continuously improving its
algorithms, the system can adapt to unique driving behaviors, thereby increasing
safety and minimizing human error.

Another key feature contributing to the projected decline in accidents is the

system’s integration with V2X communication. Through this, vehicles
communicate with each other and with the infrastructure, enabling a collaborative
approach to traffic management. This integration enhances overall safety by
providing vehicles with real-time updates on road conditions, construction zones,
potential accidents, and nearby vehicles. The ongoing exchange of data between
the vehicle and surrounding elements ensures that drivers are always aware of
their environment, enabling faster responses to emerging dangers.

The graph suggests a promising future where the collaborative technologies

embedded in the system create a safer and more informed driving environment.
The projected reductions in accident rates by 2029 emphasize the potential impact
of these advanced technologies on road safety. With the implementation of the
system, drivers will no longer be passive participants in the driving experience
but active contributors to a smarter and more efficient transportation ecosystem.

CHAPTER 4

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

4.1 ARDUINO IDE

Expanding on the use of Arduino IDE in the AR navigation system, we can
develop deeper into how the IDE enables core functionalities such as Bluetooth
communication, Wi-Fi connectivity, data handling, and real-time updates. Each
of these aspects contributes to making the AR navigation system reliable,
responsive, and capable of delivering seamless guidance to the driver. To
program your boards, you need an IDE to write your code. Then get started with
the ESP32, and Arduino IDE

To run Arduino IDE, you need to install JAVA on your computer. Bluetooth
Integration and Device Pairing Within the Arduino IDE, Bluetooth libraries, such
as Bluetooth serial are used to manage communication between the ESP32
microcontroller and the driver’s mobile device. The Arduino code written in the
IDE establishes and maintains a Bluetooth connection, allowing destination input
to be received wirelessly. By configuring the ESP32 as a Bluetooth device, the
Arduino code enables it to detect and pair with the driver’s mobile device when
prompted.

The main job of the HC-05 is adding two way (full-duplex) wireless
functionality. It can be used to communicate between two microcontrollers with
serial capabilities (like two Arduinos), but it can also be used to control any
Bluetooth device with a microcontroller or vice versa. The HC-05 gets controlled
via the TX and RX pins and supports the use of standard AT commands. For that
purpose, users must enter a special command mode when the device powers up.
This is done by pulling the key pin low when turning the module on. Otherwise,
the device boots into data mode, which allows it to communicate with other

23
devices wirelessly. As soon as the module powers on, it should be discoverable
by any Bluetooth device, for example, a smartphone. You can then connect to the
device with the standard password. Upon establishing the connection, data
transmits and converts to a serial stream by the HC-05. This serial stream is then
read by the microcontroller the module is connected.

PROJECT OVERVIEW:

In this project we will have two ESP8266 boards. Each board is connected to
a DHT sensor; Each board gets temperature and humidity readings from their
corresponding sensors; Each board sends its readings to the other board via ESP-
NOW; When a board receives the readings, it prints them on the Serial Monitor.
You can connect an OLED display to visualize the readings, for example. When
a message is sent, a message is printed indicating if the packet was successfully

24
delivered or not. Each board needs to know the other board MAC address to send
the message.

4.2 EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS

SOFTWARE OUTPUT:

The ESP32-based voice assistant code is designed to facilitate navigation through

wireless connectivity and secure communication. Initially, it defines a constant
VERSION to identify the program's name and its last update, ensuring easy
version tracking. The code includes several critical libraries. The WiFi.h library
enables Wi-Fi functionality, allowing the ESP32 to connect to internet. The
Arduino.h provides core functions and definitions necessary for programming on
the Arduino platform. Additionally, allows the ESP32 to connect to secure servers
using HTTPS, protecting data, and ensuring secure communication..

Additionally, allows the ESP32 to connect to secure servers using HTTPS,
protecting data, and ensuring secure communication. Finally, the Arduino Json
library enables easy handling of JSON data, which simplifies the parsing and
processing of structured information received from online sources. Together,
these elements allow the ESP32 to connect, retrieve, and securely process
navigation data, creating a real-time, efficient voice assistant for navigation
purposes.

4.3 CONCLUSION AND FUTURE WORKS:

light sensors to adjust the AR display's brightness dynamically. Additionally,
context-aware content management can prioritize displaying critical information
based on the current driving scenario, reducing cognitive load for users.
Till now, the project has successfully completed the software development
phase, including programming the ESP32 microcontroller, configuring the
Arduino IDE for real-time navigation data processing, and integrating the Gemini
AI server for route optimization. The AR-based interface has been tested in
simulation environments, showcasing its ability to deliver accurate, distraction-
free navigation guidance. For the hardware implementation phase, the focus will
shift to integrating physical components like AR glasses, Bluetooth modules, and
sensors (e.g., GPS, gyroscope). This phase will involve assembling and testing
the hardware to ensure seamless communication with the software, validating
real-world functionality, and addressing challenges like power efficieny and
environmental adaptability. These efforts will prepare the system for Phase 2
review, where both software and hardware components will be evaluated for their
combined performance, reliability, and user experience in a practical environment.
