adapted for the Portuguese language under the auspices of the Supreme Grand
Chapter of Masons of the Royal Arch of Brazil, enabling the Obediences

Freemasonry in Brazil began as Adonhiramite even during the colonial period,

adopted the French or Modern Rite in the Independence campaign and embraced
the Scottish Rite at the end of the First Empire. In the Second Empire, with the
English presence welcomed the Modern English Rite, and, with the German settlers,
accepted the Schröeder Rite. In the Republic, in the patriotic exaltation of the First
World War, created the Brazilian Rite. With the practice of six Rites, the third

Congratulations on joining us, we hope you find benefit in your

walk and that each day I may become a better person.

Beginning your learning, you will quickly learn that in

Masonry has some administrative and liturgical divisions.

Administratively, Freemasonry is divided into units that we call

"Shops" or "Workshops". The Shops are grouped in an Obedience, to which
are subordinate. In our case, to the Large Stores.

The meetings held by Masonic Lodges follow a ritual. There is

a whole way for the development of activities, there is a symbolism
specific through which the lessons are conveyed. These rituals are not
unique in the world, there are different ways of working, there are
different Masonic Rites, among which we list:

York Rite (Ancient English Rite)

You started in a Lodge that adopts the York Rite, the most practiced one throughout
the world. We estimate that in every 5 Masons in the world, at least 3 use
this practice. Despite the global 'supremacy', in Brazil it is still little
known. In our country, approximately 90% of the Stores use the Rite
Ancient and Accepted Scottish - REAA.

Who is who?

The Supreme Grand Chapter of Masons of the Royal Arch of Brazil

SGCMRAB is the body responsible for managing the first segment of the
High Degrees of our Rite have authority over the capitulo degrees of the Rite
of York degree of master. The High Degrees are divided into Degrees
Chapter chapters, Cryptic Degrees in the Council and the Orders of
Cavalry Commandery. High Degrees, or Superior Degrees are all the
degrees beyond the Master Mason. Some erroneously call them degrees
Philosophical.

A large Masonic Lodge confederated to CMSB, as a sovereign obedience,
has total authority over the degrees of Apprentice, Companion, and Master.

OSGCMRABé linked to the Grand International General Chapter of Masons

Why do we need to know who is who? So that it is clear who has

authority over what.

OSGCMRAB, as the entity responsible for Higher Degrees, realized that for
a greater expansion of the Chapters, Councils, and Commanderies, would be

about them. There were obediences in Brazil that had provisions for the Rite of
York in its legislation, but they did not have the Rituals. It was necessary that the

Where did this ritual come from?

The Grand Lodge of New York granted rituals for the SGCMRAB
translated and made available to the Brazilian Obediences. Our dear brother
João Guilherme Cruz Ribeiro made a marvelous adaptation and, with great
generosity freely ceded its use to all Regular Obediences
from Brazil. OSGCMRAB went even further, created a customizable edition...
Any Lodge that wished to adopt the York Rite would not need to
to worry about correction, layout, or printing, it would be enough to acquire the ritual already
with your own logo. Such ease provided in addition to a
explosion of the Rite, a great irony: standardization.

In January 2018, the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of

State of New York (Grand Lodge of New York) promoted the program
titled 'First International Grand Lecturers Convention', focused on the three
degrees of the York Rite, from the Blue Lodges in the USA. Through this material,

 For those coming from other rites

You who come from other Rites may find our rituals strange at first,
but in a short time you will have no difficulty and certainly, thus
like us, will enjoy a lot. Several noticeable differences will be perceived,
we will now try to summarize in a way that facilitates the adaptation of those who visit
first time a Lodge that works in the York Rite.

In the York Rite there is none

Temple;
Entrance or Exit Procession;

Adaptation to the REAA Temple

Our suggestion is to focus on simplicity! The biggest difficulty in adapting a

REAA temple to the use of a York Rite Lodge is the location of the door and the
first Vigilante station. In most existing REAA temples, the altars
they are fixed, therefore, there is no way to simply move them. Sometimes already
we placed an extra table in the position, but besides the aesthetic problem, this
make the 1st Vigilante stand directly in front of the door, making
it is necessary to go around it when entering or leaving the store.

Regarding the station of the Venerable Master, there have already been situations where
we simply ignore the existing table in the REAA temple. We placed the
chairs of the Venerable, Chaplain and Mastern line of the Eastern grid,
isolating the entire back part. This practice makes the whole Store level.

 RITUALISTIC GUIDELINES

Start of the Meeting

The meeting starts with everyone inside the Store and wearing their aprons. The necklaces

Introduction

brothers of the Lodge, where they assume and sign a biannual commitment, the
Venerable Master, the First Vigilant and the Second Vigilants. The others
positions that are adopted by our ritual can be named accordingly
with the Store's legislation. All officials who are not elected are appointed
by the Venerable Master and are at his disposal.

Some Stores may adopt additional officials, such as the Historian and the
Educator. While the Grand Lodge does not officially adopt these positions, they
will not possess jewels or emblems of their trade.
