men, and perhaps the greatest Mason the world has ever known, namely.
Our Grand Master, Hiram Abiff, who was murdered shortly before the
completion of the Temple of King Solomon.

His death was premeditated by fifteen companions, who, upon seeing the
Temple about to finish, and eager to obtain the secrets of a
Mason Master, for they could travel abroad and receive the
salaries of a Teacher, entered into a horrible conspiracy to
to extort our Grand Master, Hiram Abiff, and take his life, but, the
horror of the atrocity of the crime, twelve of them retracted and the others
three persisted in their criminal plans.

Our Grand Master, Hiram Abiff, was killed at high twelve.38It was his
custom at that time, while the workers were being called from the
work at rest, enter the unfinished "Sanctum Sanctorum or Holy
of the Saints" of the temple, to offer their worship to God, and draw
their designs on the easel.

a Mason master, knowing of their custom, they stood to the South, to the West
and to the East of the doors of the inner courtyards of the temple, and there they waited
his return.

Our Grand Master, Hiram Abiff, having finished his usual

prayers to God, he tried to leave through the South door, when he was approached
by Jubela, who demanded from him three times the secrets of a Mason Master, or
the word of the Master, and, for which he refused, giving him a blow to the
neck, for which he fled and tried to leave through the West door, where he was
approached by Jubelo, who likewise demanded from him the secrets of a
Master Mason, or the word of the Master, and, failing in the attempt, gave him a
blow with the square to his chest, for which Our Great Master, Hiram
Abiff fled and tried to escape through the Eastern door, where he was
approached by Jubelum, who, in the same way, demanded three times the
secrets of a Mason Master, or the word of the Master, and seeing the
negative from the Master, he gave a violent blow with a mallet to the forehead,
that brought him down dead on the spot.

The ruffians buried the body in the rubble of the Temple until the
twelve lows or twelve at night, when they gathered by mutual agreement and it

West of Mount Moriah, where they buried in a grave dug towards the
This and the West, two meters high and above the head they planted an acacia,
in order to hide it, and for the place to be recognized, yes, the occasion
would demand it.

The next day the absence of Our Great Master, Hiram Abiff, and his
absence was discovered due to the lack of any design drawn on the
easel.

King Solomon, believing that Our Grand Master, Hiram Abiff was
unwell, ordered a strict search and to carry out a proper
investigation throughout the Temple, so they could find it, if
it was possible. However, no one had seen it or knew anything.

Then, fearing that something had happened to him, the king ordered to pass the
list of the workers, and it happened that there were three missing, namely:
Jubela, Jubelo, and Jubelum, who, based on the similarity of their names, ...
they are supposed to be brothers and men of Tyre.

The three who went to the West returned and informed King Solomon, who
he ordered them to travel as before, and it was his order that they find the
ruffians and if they didn't do so, the twelves are then considered the
murderers, and they will suffer severely for the crime committed.

frustrated, one of the brothers, being more tired than the rest,
they sat on the top of a hill, to the West of Mount Moriah, to
rest and refresh, and when trying to get up, he grabbed an Acacia, which
it easily came off, and drew his attention to what seemed to be a
tomb.

While they were there before their discovery, and while they were
resting and refreshing themselves, they heard the following horrible exclamations
among the adjacent rocks.

The first was the voice of Jubela, exclaiming:

Oh, my throat will be cut out completely.

The second was the voice of Jubelo, exclaiming:

Oh, my chest will be torn apart

The third was the voice of Jubelum, exclaiming:

Oh, if my body were to be cut in two

They rushed to capture and tie them up, they took them
before King Solomon, who, after due conviction of his
guilt, ordered that they be taken to the outskirts of the gates of the
atriums of the temple, and executed in accordance with the various imprecations that
they committed against their own heads.

King Solomon ordered the twelve companions to go in search of the body, and, if
they would find it, observe, if the Master's word was there, or a
key to it, or anything belonging to the Master, inside or
around him.

The body of our Grand Master, Hiram Abiff, was found in a

King Solomon ordered them to go help lift the body, and they

word pronounced after the body has been raised, it should be used

futures may find the lost secrets.

Standing in front of the tomb, King Solomon ordered one of the Officers
companions take the body by the grip of an Apprentice, and see if it could
to get up, but due to its high state of decomposition, it could not be
lifted - the meat separates from the bone.

King Solomon then ordered to take hold of the Companion, but

for the reason given above, the meat separates from the bone, the grip of the

King Solomon then exclaimed:

Always! My brother from Tyre, what shall we do? Let us pray.

After the prayer, King Solomon took the body by the grip of a
Mason Master, or lion's paw, and lift it by the five points of the
fraternity, which we have explained previously. The body was taken
then to the temple for a more dignified burial, and he was buried in the due
form.

The body of our Great Master was buried three times: first, in the
temple debris, secondly, at the top of a hill to the West
from Mount Moriah, and, thirdly and finally, the closest to the
Sanctum Sanctorum or Holy of Holies, of the Temple of King Solomon,
since Jewish law permitted it, and Masonic tradition tells us that it was
erected in his memory a Masonic monument, which consists of " a
beautiful virgin, crying over a broken column, that was in front of her
an open book; in his right hand a branch of Acacia, at the
to the left a ballot box; behind it is time counting
the curls of her hair.
86

The beautiful virgin who weeps over the broken column indicates the state
unfinished Temple, in the same way the premature death of our
Grand Master, Hiram Abif, the open book in front of her indicates that her
virtues are recorded in eternity, the acacia twig in hand

were deposited in it securely, within the framework of the 'Sanctum

La construcción de este gran edificio contó con dos circunstancias notables.

From Josephus we learn that they were occupied for seven years in the
construction of the temple, however, during all this time, it did not rain
during the day, and the workers were able to work without obstructions in their
labor, and from sacred history we are told that there was not even the sound
of the hammer, nor axes, nor any other iron tool, in the temple
while it was being built. This famous construction was supported
for one thousand four hundred and fifty
three columns, and two thousand
nine hundred six pillars; all
crafted with the finest marble from
Paros.

They were employees in the

The three steps

Generally drawn in the picture of

Master's lodge, are emblematic of the
three main stages of human life, to
saber:. Juventud, Madurez , y la Vejez. En
the youth, of Apprentices, we must
diligently occupy our mind in the
acquisition of useful knowledge, and in the
Maturity, as Companions, we must
apply our knowledge for the performance of our respective
duties towards the G.·.A.·.D.·.U.·., to our neighbor and to ourselves,
so that in old age, as Master Masons, we can enjoy
the happy reflections as a consequence of a well-lived life, and die
in the hope of a glorious immortality.

The jar of incense

It is a symbol of a pure heart, which is

always willing to make an acceptable sacrifice to the
Deity, and as this shines with scorching heat, so
our hearts shine continuously with
gratitude to the great and benevolent author of our
existence, for the multiple blessings and
comforts that we enjoy.

THE BEEHIVE

It is a symbol of work, and it recommends the

practice of virtue towards all created beings,
from the highest seraph in heaven to the
smallest reptile of the dust. It teaches us that,
as rational and intelligent beings of the
World, we must always be the industrious,
and never feel satisfied, while
our peers are in need, and
90

it is in our power to free them, without inconvenience to ourselves.

When we study nature, we see man, in his childhood, a

gross creation defenseless and destitute, for days, months, and years, is
totally unable to provide for himself, protection
against the attack of the wild beasts of the forest, or to take shelter for oneself
same before the inclement weather.

The Creator of heaven and earth could have made man as a being
independent of all other beings, but, as dependency is one
from the strongest ties of society, men were created
depending on each other for their protection and security, and thus they obtain
better opportunity to fulfill the duties of friendship and mutual love.

Thus man was created for social and active life, being the most part
noble of the work of the G.·.A.·.D.·.U.·., thus he must behave in such a way that
add something to the common pool of knowledge and intelligence, in order not to be
the drone of the hive of society, and unworthy of our protection
like Masons.

It reminds us that we must always be vigilant.

THE SWORD POINTING AT A NAKED HEART

words and actions may be hidden from the
men's eyes.

stars obey, and under whose watchful care the comets perform their
stupendous revolution, scrutinizes even the most hidden points of the heart
humane, and rewards us according to our merits.

THE ANCHOR AND THE ARK

They are emblems of a good hope

founded and a life well spent.
They represent that Divine Ark, which
it surely takes us through the
stormy sea of difficulties, and the
Anchor that will surely anchor us in
a port of peace, where the wicked will cease to create difficulties, and the
The tired will find rest.

THE FORTY-SEVENTH PROBLEM OF EUCLID

This was our friend's favorite problem and

brother the Great Pythagoras, who in his travels to
through Asia, Africa and Europe, was initiated in
different initiatory orders, and elevated to the sublime
Master Mason degree. This wise philosopher
enriched his intelligence with knowledge
general of things and especially in Geometry and
Freemasonry.

On this topic, he outlined several problems and theorems, and among the most
notables, be it, that in the joy of his heart, he called "EUREKA" that
means in Greek 'I found it'. This point teaches Freemasons to be
lovers of the Arts and Sciences and better understand the mysteries of the
nature and the immutable rules of universal harmony.

THE SAND TIMER

It is an emblem of Human life. Behold how softly it passes the

arena and that our lives are quickly heading towards their end. We cannot
to contemplate without amazement the small particles that are contained in
this device y how they pass almost
imperceptibly, and yet, for our
surprise, in the short span of an hour all have
past. Thus the Man! Today is born in him the
tender leaves of hope; tomorrow it blooms and
it proudly displays its flowers; then, it lives the
frost; and when you think that your greatness still
It exists, falling like those of autumn, to enrich Mother Earth.
92

THE SCYTHE

It is the emblem of time that cuts the sharp thread of the

life and it makes us descend into eternity.
Behold the devastation it causes to humanity
the scythe of time.

If we manage to escape the numerous evils of the

childhood and youth, and we arrived with health and life
In middle age, it is no less true that we will be
scythed by the scythe of time and transported
to the earth like our parents were, before
than we.

Now I draw your attention to the third and final class of

emblems, those that are as sacred as any other part of the degree
What you have received are the Mallet, the Shovel, the Coffin, and the Acacia Branch.

The Mace is emblematic of that with which our great was assassinated
Master Hiram Abiff.

The shovel; that which was used to dig his grave, reminding us that one day
a similar instrument will open ours.

The coffin, the one that holds his remains.

Design our latest place of
rest in that eternal dwelling and
silent, house of peace, where the
the wicked cease to disturb, and the
they are tired at rest.

These are important symbols and the

which can provide material for a serious one
contemplation of a reflective spirit.

But when we think of the Acacia Branch, found in bloom at

The head of the pit, we remember that within us we carry something.
immortal who survives the grave, and in that way we never, never die.
93

Regarding the end of life; when the cold winter of death has
past, and the bright Summer morning of resurrection appears, the Sun
from Justice, will descend and send his angels to gather and rescue
the dead, then, if we are found worthy, for the benefit of their
step
where the Supreme Architect of the Universe presides, where we will see the King
in the beauty of holiness, and with it, we enter into a never-ending eternity.
