Theme: The Wheel

MOMENT 1: Exploration: Coexistence activity, motivation, prior knowledge.

CONCEPTUALIZATION
The wheel was one of the most significant and transcendent inventions.
during the existence of man. Nowadays it may seem almost
insignificant a development of this category, but things must
putting things in context; thus, the wheel is an emergence of humanity
that was still in its infancy and where it only primitively begins
to manifest the lights of theintelligence. This element allowed to carry to
a large number of activities, such as transporting
things or grinding wheat. Nowadays, of course, this device extends its
functions to a much larger number ofapplications, but the
basic principles of their use were already present in antiquity
remote.

Functions of the wheel

Although we haven't studied it in the classroom, some are cited below.

of the main functions of the wheel:

Facilitate the movement of objects, such as in cars,

bicycles, wheelbarrows, cars...
Reduce the effort needed to lift a mass (simple pulley,
movable pulley, hoist...); as in water wells, cranes,
elevators...
Obtain a rotary motion from the movement of a
fluid (paddle wheel, water wheel, turbine); like water mills, water wheels
irrigation, hydroelectric plants, turbines, or vice versa (pumps)
hydraulics...)
Transmit a rotational movement between shafts (pulley systems with
belt, friction wheels, sprocket, gears...); as in washing machines,
refrigerators, bicycles, blenders, juicers, vehicle transmission,
gearboxes, drills....
Transform other movements into rotating ones or vice versa (eccentric,
lever, lathe); like in sharpening stones, sewing machines,
winches.
MOMENT 3: Practice: Activities to exercise skills and competencies
expected.

We entered YouTube and searched for the following videos:

The Possible History of the Wheel:
[Link]
The Pink Panther[Link]
After watching the videos, you must respond in your notebook:
How did the idea of the wheel come about?
What was it used for?
What was its evolution like?

MOMENT 4: Valuation and transfer: Activity that allows for verification

student learning.

A multiplication table wheel will be held, intertwining the concepts of the

CONCEPTUALIZATION
A pulley is a simple machine, a mechanical traction device.
that serves to transmit a force. Additionally, forming sets —
pulleys or hoists - used to reduce the magnitude of the force
necessary for to move a weight.

The pulley is the support point of a rope that moves and winds up.
about her without making a complete turn, acting at one of her ends
the resistance (R) and in another the acting force (F) or power.
MOMENT 3: Practice: Activities to exercise skills
expected competencies.

Draw the following picture and locate the parts of the pulley.
MOMENT 4: Assessment and transfer: Activity that allows verification of the
students' learning.

Read the following text:

We find applications of the pulley in numerous mechanical systems.

around us.
The pulley is a grooved wheel on its perimeter, designed to allow
that a rope, cable, strap, or chain is in contact with its
throat or channel. Due to the friction between the throat and the string or
correa, la polea puede girar alrededor de su eje. Generalmente la polea
rotates solidarily to the axis, although in some applications it can rotate freely
(local), in which case it has bearings between the shaft and the support or
armor.

Pulleys are used for traction and lifting heavy objects or

loads (simple machine) and as a movement transmission mechanism
between axes or trees. In this section we will study the pulley as
simple machine.

TYPES OF PULLEYS

The pulley used for lifting loads can basically be of

three types:

Simple or fixed pulley.

Movable or mobile pulley.
Block and tackle (set of fixed and movable pulleys).

RESPOND:
1. From the text read, look for the unknown words in the dictionary and
Copy them into your notebook.
2. Try to draw a pulley.
