Hosting Support Application Task

So you want to work at WPMU DEV? Of course you do, why else would you be looking at
this task sheet?!

We’re looking for the right people to join our team - you'll already have solid experience
within WordPress, PHP, MySQL, Linux, and Bash.

We want to be able to gauge how excellent your skills are, so here are 10 quick questions
you’ll need to answer and submit with your application.

These questions are created to help us find those shining examples of awesomeness, - just
give it your best shot and try to complete as much as possible.

Your completed task should be sent directly to us. You can either answer inline, or you can
create a separate text file and number the answers. Good luck!

1.​ How have you used WordPress as a user, developer, or support agent? Mention
specific tasks or responsibilities.

2.​ Have you worked with hosting platforms, particularly for WordPress (e.g., WPMU
DEV, Kinsta, WP Engine, Hostinger)? If so, in what capacity?

3.​ Do you have experience with cPanel, Plesk, or other hosting control panels?

4.​ Describe your experience using the terminal. What kind of tasks have you
completed with it?
5.​ Which Linux distributions have you worked with, and in what context (e.g., servers,
personal, projects)?

6.​ What’s your comfort level with DNS, SSL, and email configuration in a hosting
context?

7.​ How would you manually migrate a WordPress website? Describe your approach if
the source is a cPanel shared hosting environment and the destination server has
SSH access.

8.​ Have you ever diagnosed or fixed a WordPress site that was down? What steps did
you take?
9.​ Are you familiar with debugging tools like WP_DEBUG, Query Monitor, or browser
dev tools?

10.​A customer is having issues with a WordPress plugin update, which is causing a
white screen. What steps would you take to diagnose and fix it?

Awesome - now all you have to do is return the task along with a copy of your CV, it’s that
simple!

P.S. It doesn't hurt to show off - in fact, we encourage it! Send us examples of past work or
maybe a link to your GitHub account so we can really see what coding glitter you are made
of!
