Flip-Flop Conversion Techniques Guide

The document outlines the steps for converting one type of flip-flop to another in sequential circuit design, including creating characteristic and excitation tables, and deriving boolean expressions. It also mentions applications of flip-flops such as storage, counters, and finite state machines. The document provides a structured approach to designing the necessary circuits for these conversions.

MODULE 5
Sequential Circuit Design
1. Determine the flip-flop you need to create (e.g., T flip-flop) and the flip-flop you
already have (e.g., D flip-flop).
2. Draw the characteristic table for the required flip flop.
3. Use the excitation table (from the outputs of required flipflop) to determine the
required inputs for the available flip-flop to achieve the desired behavior of the
required flip-flop.
4. Draw the Conversion table.
5. Find the boolean expression for available flip flop using required flip flop inputs
and obtain excitation functions for sub-flip flop.
6. Construct logic diagram according to the functions obtained
