- Present a controversial statement related to students' lives.
- Students stand if they agree, sit if they disagree, or remain neutral if
undecided.
-Call on a few students from each group to briefly explain their reasoning.
This sparks initial engagement and reveals different viewpoints.

The statements are:


"Smartphones should be banned in classrooms to reduce distractions."
“Online learning is more effective than traditional classroom learning."
"College is not necessary for success in the modern world."

Follow-up questions:
 “Why do you agree/disagree?”
 “Can you give ONE strong reason?”

Analysis The teacher will show a picture and let the students answer the questions

10minutes Definition of Terms

1. An Argumentative text is any text where the main purpose is to


present a point of view and seeks to persuade a reader.

Argumentative Writing includes debates and arguments, opinion pieces,


feature articles, speeches, letters like application letters, reviews, and
advertisements.

Structural Elements of an Argumentative Writing

1. Statement of position – gives the overview of the argument and


reveals the position to be argued. It clearly states the central
argument of the text.

Example: My fellow Filipinos, people all over the world, we need to


solve climate crisis. It’s not a political issue; it’s a moral issue. We
have everything we need to get started, except for the will to act.
That’s a renewable resource. Let’s renew it.

2. Arguments Section – which is a series of points with supporting


evidence. Here is where your try to convince the reader into
believing your point of view on a particular issue. You should have
at least three main argument points with supporting evidence.

3. Restatement of position- In this section you will strongly repeat


what you believe in with a summary of your argument points.

Application Argumentative Paragraph Puzzle– ARRANGE THE ARGUMENT

Utilizing the same groupings, the group will answer the following
questions:
1. Arrange the sample argumentative text in a proper order by
writing first, second, third, and fourth text.
Procedure:
1. Each group receives printed puzzle pieces (printed strips).
2. The pieces (claim, reasons, evidence, counterclaim, rebuttal,
conclusion) are mixed.
3. Students arrange them in proper order.
4. Groups present their assembled argument.
