UNIT 2 – SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE
My name is Jamie. I am from America, but I live in Istanbul
with my family. We love Istanbul very much. It is a
multicultural city. A lot of people from different cultures,
religions and backgrounds live in Istanbul. For example, I have
many Muslim, Christian and Jewish friends here. It is a very
crowded city. It has more than 15 million residents. Due to its
large population, traffic gets very hectic during rush hours.
Istanbul is the most exciting and fascinating city all over the world. It has a unique geographical position.
It unites two continents: Asia and Europe. It has many modern and historical places. Therefore, thousands
of foreign tourists visit Istanbul every day.
Turkish is the official language of Turkey. It is one of the most spoken languages in the world.
When you visit Istanbul, you see a lot of cats and dogs in the streets. My friend, Maria looks after all the
street cats and dogs around her house. She gives them food every morning and evening.
Football is very important. On important game nights, people wear the shirts of their favourite football
team. One of my friends, Arda supports Beşiktaş. He goes to all Beşiktaş matches.

LAZY DAYS…
Hi! My name is Jeremy. I am a very lazy guy, but I’m proud of it!
Every day I get up at midday. I have my breakfast in bed. My mother always brings it to me
because I wake up very, very tired. She is sometimes angry at me, but she is usually kind.
I never make my bed! You know, it’s easier at night to get in.
A shower… only after the Gym lesson… if the teacher asks for it. That is enough!
Classes are always very boring and I always arrive late! I sit at the
back without my books because they are too heavy to carry! If
I’m not too tired, I make fun of my teachers. My jokes are very
funny! I love playing tricks on my friends... I sometimes scare
them or I steal their clothes after the Gym lesson while they take a
shower!
I go home at half past six! I often get someone to carry my bag. Before dinner, I usually take a nap.
My father wakes me up when dinner is ready. After dinner, I sometimes watch TV.
And there are some more things you must know about me… I don’t like football because I have to
run after the ball… I hate homework and I don’t care about it! I haven’t got a girlfriend because she
would only give me extra work!
