SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 1
I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of 30-minutes discussion, the pupils will be able to:
a. Identify the steps for adding and subtracting whole numbers using flashcards;
b. Solve problems involving addition and subtraction of whole numbers;
c. Apply knowledge in real life situations.

III. LEARNING PROCEDURE
A. PRELIMINARY ACTIVITIES
a. Greetings
The teacher will greet the students.
b. Prayer
The teacher will ask students to lead the prayer.
c. Checking of attendance
The teacher will call out all their names to check if they are physically
present.
d. Presentation of classroom rules
The teacher will ask the students to read the classroom rules and the
teacher will explain it afterwards.
B. MOTIVATION
The teacher will let the students watch a short video about addition and
subtraction of whole numbers ([Link]
T92Xd) and ask question afterwards. Then proceed with the presentation of the
topic and objectives.
C. ACTIVITY
The teacher will present a game called, “ROLL THE DICE!”.
Mechanics of the Game:
1. The teacher will roll a dice.
2. The number on the dice determines the counting range. If it shows 4,
we count from 1 - 4.
3. The teacher will ask a math question.
4. The chosen student will answer the question.
5. After the question is answered, the teacher rolls the dice again, and we
count again from where we stopped.
6. Repeat the process.
D. ANALYSIS
The teacher will start discussing the topic.
Addition means putting together or combining two or more numbers to get a
bigger number. The result or the answer in addition is called “sum”.
For example, if we have 2 apples and we add 3 more apples, we will have 5
apples in all.
Let’s say it together: Two plus three equals five. 2 + 3 = 5. We use the plus sign (+)
to show addition.
Now, let’s talk about subtraction.
Subtraction means taking away or finding how many are left. The result or the
answer in subtraction is called “difference”.
For example, if you have 5 candies and you give 2 to your friend, how many
candies are left?
Five minus two equals three. 5 - 2 = 3. We use the minus sign (-) to show
subtraction.
Let’s try more examples together!
Addition: 4 + 1 = ?
Subtraction: 6 - 3 = ?
When we add, the number becomes bigger. When we subtract, the number
becomes smaller.
Let’s see how we use addition and subtraction in real life. If you have 3 pencils
and your mother gives you 2 more, how many pencils do you have now? (3 + 2
= 5)
If you have 5 mangoes and you eat 2, how many are left? (5 - 2 = 3)
We use addition and subtraction every day — when we buy things, share food,
or count our toys!
E. ABSTRACTION
The teacher will ask if the students what did they understand about the
topic. Then the teacher will ask students more questions about the topic.

2. What do we call the symbol that we use when we take away numbers?
3. When we add numbers, do we get a bigger or smaller number?
4. When we subtract, do we get a bigger or smaller number?
5. What do we call the answer in an addition sentence?
6. What do we call the answer in a subtraction sentence?
7. Which operation should you use if you want to find out the sum of the
numbers?
8. Which operation should you use if you want to find out the difference of the
numbers?
9. Why do you think it is important for us to learn how to add and how to
subtract?
10. Can you give me an example where we use math in a real-life situation?
F. APPLICATION
The teacher will divide the students into three (3) groups. The first group will
solve the given addition math problem. The second group will solve the given
subtraction math problem. And lastly, the third group will solve the given
word/situational math problem.
IV. EVALUATION
Answer the following equation in a clean sheet of paper. Write the letter of
the correct answer.
