1. Read the passage given below and answer the questions that follow:
The art of conversation is a skill that can be cultivated. It is the art of exchanging thoughts with others, of
being able to listen and to contribute to a shared understanding. Good conversation is not about winning
an argument or proving a point. It is about creating a connection with another person. To be a good
conversationalist, you need to be a good listener. Pay attention to what the other person is saying, both
verbally and non-verbally. Show that you are interested by nodding, making eye contact, and asking
clarifying questions. When it is your turn to speak, be clear and concise. Avoid monopolizing the
conversation or interrupting others. Try to build on what others have said, rather than just waiting for your
turn to talk.
Another important aspect of good conversation is empathy. Try to understand the other person's
perspective, even if you don't agree with it. Acknowledge their feelings and validate their experiences.
This doesn't mean you have to change your own mind, but it does mean showing respect for their point of
view. Finally, be yourself. Authentic conversation is the most rewarding. Don't try to be someone you're
not, or say things you don't believe in. Let your personality shine through. By practicing these simple
skills, you can become a more confident and engaging conversationalist, and enrich your relationships
with others.
