Analysis and Reflection
Observing students behavior in a learning environment is important to catch any development
concerns that would be easily fixed if caught early enough. While comparing the running note
and the anecdotal methods of child observation, I prefer the anecdotal method. It gaven me a
more student-centered sense of observing. The running note method did take mrore time and
focus to catch every little detail. While I felt more relax with the anecdotal method. Seeing how
well the teacher set up routines to accomplish student learning.
One observation method I utilize this year is the developmental checklist method. It is very
applicable for student who are under develope. I work in a middle school, where some of my
students are more than 4 grade level behind. Some of the cause is due to simple habits not behind
established. Is the student being engaged, asking questions, participating in classroom
discussion. Behavioral concern could be observed easier with the developmental checklist
method.
