The heat index has a significant role in the academic participation and welfare of the
students. However, as the heat index rose, many sectors in the world were affected, and that
includes the education sector. The Department of Education released the new school calendar,

the researcher conducted a study to understand how the rising heat index and its effect to the
new school calendar affect academic performance and welfare of the Senior High School
students of Calbayog City National High School (CCNHS). In conducting this study, the
researchers utilized the triangulation method as the researcher gathered data in qualitative, and
this research used a number-based scale to measure how hard it was for the student to adjust
to the new school calendar, which is a quantitative approach. After gathering data, the results
showed that most of the respondents were from the Science, Technology, Engineering, and
Mathematics (STEM), and were in the grade level 11. The data showed that the Senior High
Students (SHS) expressed their struggle with the new school calendar. With the data gathered,
the results showed that most of the students doesn’t have heat-related illness, but most of the
Senior High School Students (SHS) struggled to concentrate due to high temperature, but they
manage to cope with the problem by drinking water.
