Network Engineer
Job Summary:
A Network Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, managing, and troubleshooting an
organization's computer networks, ensuring they are efficient, secure, and reliable. This role involves working
with various networking technologies, such as routers, switches, firewalls, and VPNs, to maintain and
improve the overall network infrastructure. Network Engineers ensure that the organization's network
systems meet the demands of the business, supporting day-to-day operations and enabling smooth
communication and data transfer.
Key Responsibilities:
Network Design & Implementation: Design and implement local area networks (LAN), wide
area networks (WAN), and cloud-based networks, ensuring that they meet the organization’s
needs for speed, security, and scalability.
Network Configuration: Configure and install network equipment, such as routers, switches,
firewalls, and access points, to ensure proper network functionality.
Network Troubleshooting: Monitor network performance and diagnose problems, providing
timely solutions to issues such as slow connectivity, system outages, or hardware malfunctions.
Security Management: Implement and maintain network security protocols, including firewalls,
intrusion detection systems (IDS), and virtual private networks (VPNs), to safeguard sensitive
data and prevent unauthorized access.
Performance Monitoring: Continuously monitor network traffic and performance, using
network monitoring tools to ensure optimal performance and quickly identify potential issues.
Documentation: Maintain accurate documentation for network configurations, topologies,
troubleshooting guides, and other relevant information for team reference and audits.
Software and Hardware Upgrades: Regularly update network hardware and software to keep
the network secure and up to date with the latest technologies.
Collaboration & Support: Work closely with other IT teams, such as systems administrators and
security engineers, to ensure that the network integrates effectively with other infrastructure
components. Provide technical support and guidance to users or other teams when network
issues arise.
Disaster Recovery: Implement and test disaster recovery and business continuity plans to
ensure that the network can recover quickly in case of failure.

Optimization: Optimize network efficiency by configuring routing protocols, improving traffic
flow, and ensuring redundancy to minimize downtime.
Essential Skills and Qualifications:
Networking Protocols: Strong knowledge of networking protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP,
HTTP, OSPF, MPLS and BGP.
Hardware & Devices: Familiarity with network hardware such as routers, switches, firewalls,
and load balancers.
Security: Expertise in implementing security measures such as firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion
prevention systems.
Network Design: Ability to design network layouts that meet business needs while ensuring
scalability and security.
Troubleshooting: Advanced troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve network connectivity
issues quickly and efficiently.
Cloud Technologies: Familiarity with cloud networking concepts (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google
Cloud).
Virtualization: Experience with network virtualization technologies like SD-WAN and VLANs.
Scripting/Automation: Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell) to
automate network configuration and management tasks.
Desirable Qualifications:
A degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent
experience.
Certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Cisco Certified Network
Professional (CCNP), CompTIA Network+, Juniper Networks Certified Internet Associate
(JNCIA), or similar certifications.
2-5 years of experience in network engineering, with a focus on configuring, maintaining, and
troubleshooting network systems.
Experience with enterprise-level networking environments and tools is often required.
