MAKE SURE THE MACHINE IS PROPERLY GROUNDED
BEFORE OPERATING.

Most people are surprised by the following fact: this

the machine sends thousands of volts and several more of energy through the ground wire,
it needs a good grounding system.

This can be provided with a metal bar buried in the ground and connected to
ground at the back of the machine, or through the actual ground cable that should

2.1 Installation and adjustment steps

Water pump connection

The cooling water system is very important for the laser machine: if
It works without cooling water, the laser tube will explode.

Connect the water inlet tube in the laser to the submersible pump and place the tube of
water outlet and the pump in a water tank at room temperature. Plug in the pump
And I waited for a steady flow of water in the output hose in the bucket before operating the
laser. For better results, consider using distilled water to prevent buildup
of minerals inside the glass laser tube.

See Figure F2-1

When the water temperature exceeds 35 °C / 95 °F (body temperature),
replace it with cold water or put ice in the tank. If the unit is stored or
operating in freezing conditions below (below 0 degrees Celsius / 32F),
I added antifreeze to the water to prevent the freezing destruction of the laser tube.
made of glass.

Nota: Siempre confirme el flujo constante de agua en el tubo laser antes de operar el
laser.

Use a water tank where you can see or hear the flow if possible.

If the tank is under a table and the circulation of the liquid is not heard.
consider adding a flow indicator and a temperature sensor or thermostat to
prevent the explosion of the laser tube.

due to accidents caused by a poor grounding!
CHAPTER 3
OPERATION OF THE LASER MACHINE

The following is a brief introduction to the control panel.

3.1 Function of the buttons

Main power switch

This switch is the main switch of the laser machine. When it is changed
turned on, the laser head will move to the upper left corner.

Laser switch

The laser switch is the master control for the laser: in the down position it is
activated, and in the position above it is off.

The laser will not work unless this switch is in the low position.

(3) Test switch (Laser test)

When the main power switch and the laser switch are
When pressed, the Test button will trigger a laser pulse. This button will be used when
adjust the laser power with the current adjustment knob or the buttons of
power regulation, as well as for laser beam alignment.

4) Dials or buttons for current or power regulation

This knob or buttons adjust the power of the laser. The power can be determined with the
current, as it is proportional to it
(5) Display Digital

THE DIGITAL DISPLAY SHOWS THE POWER IN % OF THE MAXIMUM VALUE

The standard value must be below 40W (15 mA, 100%) when the machine is
functioning.

When aligning the laser beam, adjust the current power below 25W (10 mA, 62%)
security.

Note: Please read the previous section carefully before turning on the machine.

3.2 Equipment operation

Step zero: insert the included USB key into the computer connected to the laser. The laser does not
will be recognized without this key.

First step:

Fix the material to be worked on (red plastic in the image) between the jaws at the level of the
surface above their level. This maintains the focus distance (about 5
correct.

Note: An incorrect focal length will result in poor recording quality.

Second step:

Create your design with the included software: Corel Draw 11 and LaserDraw, or with Inkscape.
y K40whisperer

Third Step:
Move the laser head to set the work origin by dragging the design in the
computing interface

Fourth Step:

Configure an appropriate laser power on the machine according to the type of material you wish
process. ( consult help in the software ) For the rubber stamping blocks,
we suggest a value between 20 W (12mA) and 25W (15mA).

Fifth Step:

Set the recording speed in the software, then send the job to the laser machine.

Note: when working with thick woods, it is sometimes useful to use an air blower of 5
PSI to prevent fires and speed up cutting.

Technical note: The K40 model, like most CO2 lasers, operates near a
frequency of 10,640 nm that works well in natural materials: glass, wood, leather,
plastics.

YAG lasers (blue ray) operate around 1,064 nm which works well for engraving.

CHAPTER 4:
DAILY MAINTENANCE AND COMMON FAULTS

The stable operation of the laser machine is inseparable from its proper
maintenance.

Here are some common daily maintenance tasks, as well as tips for
solve problems:

4.1 Daily Maintenance

1. Replacement of cooling water - The cleanliness of the water tank must be maintained.
It is recommended to replace the recycled water once a week.

The quality and temperature of the cooling water can affect the lifespan of the tube.
directly with laser, so we suggest using purified or distilled water

The water temperature must always be maintained below 35° / 95° F

(approximately body temperature). When it exceeds 35° / 95° F, replace the
cooling water or add ice cubes to lower the water temperature. You can
use a cooling device like a mini refrigerator to hold the water, or
alternatively, two water tanks can be used.

NOTE: Make sure that the laser tube is completely flooded with water.
cooling, before starting the machine.

2. Cleaning of the water tank

First, turn off the power, disconnect the water inlet pipe and leave
that the internal water of the laser tube flows into the water tank automatically.

Then, open the water tank, remove and clean the water pump, and place it back in the
water tank. Connect the water pump to the water inlet of the machine and
check all connections, then replace the cooling water.

Turn on the water pump separately and let the pump run for two or three
minutes to ensure that the laser tube has been completely filled with water.

3. Cleaning of the smoke extractor

Over time, the extractor will fill up with soot and will require cleaning. Any unusual noise
the fan means that cleaning is overdue and the exhaust performance has
begun to decrease. As this system is responsible for extracting and removing the smoke
Venomous outside, it needs to function correctly at all times.

First, turn off the power supply and remove the two tubes from the fan. Clean
the dust / soot from the inside of the pipes, then clean the dust from the fan.
4. Lens cleaning: daily cleaning is recommended before use because dirt
In mirrors, it will heat up to very high temperatures and can destroy them.

All equipment must be turned off before cleaning it to avoid burns and blindness.

Cleaning of the mirrors.

The engraving machine has three reflecting mirrors and a focusing lens. The mirror
Reflector 1 is located near the light exit of the laser tube in the upper corner.
left of the machine. The reflector mirror 2 # is on the left side of the beam, and the mirror
reflector 3 # is located at the top of the laser head with the focusing lens located at
the bottom part of the laser head.

Mirrors get dirty quickly with soot and smoke, which can result in loss of
laser power and damage to the mirrors if no precautions are taken. Do not remove the mirrors to
clean them; doing so is impractical and means realigning the entire path of the laser beam
the machine. Instead, use a cotton ball soaked in a cleaning solution
(acetone or alcohol) to rub carefully turning from the center to the edge of the
lens.

To clean the lens, remove the focusing lens from the laser head and use the same method to
cleaning for the mirrors to do it.

================================================================
Note:

Clean the lens carefully, you don't want to damage the surface coating.

Do not drop the focus lens

Keep the concave side down when installing the lens of

approach.
5. Cleaning the guide rail: it is suggested to clean every two weeks.

The equipment must be turned off before cleaning it to avoid burns and blindness.

First, move the laser head to the far side and clean the guide rail with a cloth.
dry until it is shiny and clean. Then clean and lubricate the guide rail of the axis with a
a little oil (sewing machine oil is recommended), then push the head
several times slowly along the guide And so that The lubricant is distributed
evenly.

Note: Use a dry cotton cloth with a little lubricant oil.

6. Optical Path Inspection

The optical path system of the laser engraving machine consists of three mirrors.
and the focusing lens. There is a bias in the optical path with the focusing lens, but the three
mirrors are mechanically fixed, so the displacement of the optical path is
very possible.

Although there is usually no optical bias, we still suggest that you

check the optical path before working, especially before the first one
operation after shipment.

A detailed explanation of the alignment process can be found in

Appendix I "Optical Path Alignment Standards"
4.2 Analysis of common failures (troubleshooting)

Most common failure problems and troubleshooting:

The laser works very slowly and refuses to execute the speed changes.
especially with Corel Draw.

This is due to some kind of incompatibility with the motherboard.

Solution:
In the DIY 3D Tech menu, select 'properties'. Then go to 'Mainboard' and
Choose M1. This usually solves the problem.

The laser seems to work, but it skips a line or changes the lines from left to right.
right as if the workpiece were moving

Solution:
Close all other applications on the printing PC.

This problem is called 'malfunctioning printer' and used to be common in the days
of dot matrix printers. Basically, what happened in the case of the printers
it was that they had little or no memory of their own, so if the PC controlling them
I had to allocate a lot of memory to another application like loading programs, watching videos, etc.
this prevented the delivery of real-time data to the printer and caused the failures.
