Eco-Friendly Plastic Bottle Recycling Project
Eco-Friendly Plastic Bottle Recycling Project
II. LOCALIZATION:
I. Environmental pollution
Environmental pollution is referred to as the presence of any agent in the environment.
(physical, chemical, or biological) or a combination of several agents in places,
forms and concentrations that are or may be harmful to health, safety or
for the well-being of the population, or that may be harmful to plant life
the animal, impede the normal use of the properties and places of recreation and enjoyment of
the same.
PET is a type of plastic raw material derived from petroleum, corresponding to its
formula like that of an aromatic polyester. Its technical name is Polyethylene Terephthalate or
Polyethylene terephthalate. It began to be used as a raw material in fibers for the
textile industry and film production.
PET is the most commonly recycled plastic in the U.S. and Europe. It is used
generally in containers and bottles and often contains stabilizers and
flame retardants. The total amount of pigments and additives it contains can
reach 30% of its weight. Its production uses irritating substances and during its
heavy metals such as catalysts can be used in production, which
will ultimately be released into the environment. However, it is considered that PET does not
causes severe impacts on health, and represents a lesser risk to the environment than
PVC. Greenpeace believes that the recycling of PET, as well as that of plastics that to
the following must be encouraged.
Polyethylene terephthalate (PET). Includes beverage bottles (such as bottles for drinks)
2-liter drinks), bags to cook frozen food right there and trays for
microwave heated foods. PET plastic represents approximately 7%
of all plastics.

3. Market and customers who buy the product.
While there are more than a hundred types of plastics, the most common are six: the
Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET), High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE), the
Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC), Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE), the
Polypropylene (PP) and Polystyrene (PS). For their recycling, they are classified according to their
characteristics for which its recycling is generally done separately. This
classification should be done at the origin of the waste, such as households,
educational centers, health centers, offices, etc.

IV. PROBLEM DIAGNOSIS
In our Educational Institution, it is observed that, after the school recess,
that the central courtyard is left dirty with waste material among them
quantities of plastic bottles.
b. Proposal of solution
In the face of this issue, it is advisable to develop proposals aimed at
to develop capabilities for an environmental culture and embed them in the
planning and execution of pedagogical activities.
To commit all students of the educational community to one
A way to care for the environment is to participate in the collection of bottles.

V. PROJECT OBJECTIVES
General Objective
. Develop an environmental education, generating awareness
responsible, critical, that allows strengthening participatory processes
oriented towards environmental care and sustainable development of the
region and promoting an eco-efficient culture.
Specific Objectives
1. Promote that the environmental issue is a fundamental part and
transversal of the learning processes of the Institution

recycling (collection of plastic bottles).
3. Know the importance of recycling as part of care
of the environment and sustainable development of the region.
4. Installation of a collection center for plastic bottles.
5. Promote a financial culture through sales of
plastic bottles for the acquisition of educational materials
that the institution requires.
“
VII. EXPECTED RESULTS
In our educational institution and in the surrounding community we have
observed the consumption of soft drinks whose containers are
disposables as part of everyday garbage contaminating
the environment. In the face of this issue, the environmental committee
integrated by the responsible teachers decided to participate
in this project with the slogan 'Let's protect by caring'

The challenges faced by the Educational Institution Miguel Grau Seminario include a lack of environmental culture among students, limited financial resources for technological aids to support ecological education, and insufficient identification of maintenance personnel's roles regarding hygiene. These challenges hinder the effective collection and recycling process, requiring strategic intervention to embed environmental education in pedagogical activities and actively engage the community .
The plastic bottle collection initiative at Miguel Grau Seminario has the potential to significantly reduce local plastic waste, create awareness about environmental issues, and foster a culture of sustainability. By involving students and the community, the initiative can lead to a decrease in litter, promote responsible waste management behaviors, and provide financial resources for educational materials. However, its success would depend on sustained participation and efficient execution of collection strategies .
The main objectives of the ecological project implemented at the Educational Institution Miguel Grau Seminario include developing environmental education to create responsible awareness, promoting the inclusion of environmental issues in the learning processes, raising community awareness about ecological care through recycling, and establishing a collection center for plastic bottles. Additionally, the project aims to generate economic resources by selling collected plastic bottles to acquire necessary educational materials .
Educating communities about recycling and environmental conservation is important as it fosters a collective sense of responsibility towards the environment and encourages sustainable practices. This education leads to more informed decisions about resource use, waste management, and environmental protection, ultimately contributing to ecological balance and reduced pollution. Engaged communities are more likely to support and sustain environmental initiatives, ensuring long-term benefits .
PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) plays a crucial role in the recycling process as it is the most commonly recycled plastic, used widely in containers and bottles. Its significance lies in its ability to be transformed into a viable raw material, thereby reducing environmental impact. Recycling PET helps manage waste effectively and is encouraged due to lesser health and environmental risks compared to other plastics like PVC .
Schools can overcome financial limitations by seeking partnerships with local businesses for funding or in-kind support, applying for environmental grants, and initiating fundraising events. Involving students in entrepreneurship activities through the sale of recyclable materials can also generate revenue. Additionally, integrating recycling efforts into existing curricula and utilizing volunteer resources can offset costs, ensuring successful program implementation .
Recycling contributes to environmental benefits by conserving natural resources, decreasing waste volume, and protecting the environment. Economically, it supports national economies by reducing the need for raw materials and energy consumption, which are costlier than recovery processes. It also creates jobs and generates income benefits, strengthening ecological balance .
Integrating the PET recycling process into educational activities can be achieved by incorporating projects that require students to collect and sort PET bottles, providing practical lessons on sustainability and waste management. Schools can organize workshops and presentations focused on recycling benefits, engage students in designing products from recycled PET, and establish partnerships with local recycling centers for field visits. This approach enhances theoretical learning with hands-on experiences .
Critical success factors include strong leadership and commitment from educational administration, a well-structured program design incorporating clear objectives and processes, active involvement of students and staff, and community engagement. Adequate resources and infrastructure for collection and sorting, along with effective communication strategies to raise awareness and advocacy, are essential. Evaluation mechanisms to track and report progress, alongside continuous motivation and incentive systems for participants, are also pivotal .
Initiating a plastic bottle collection and recycling project involves economic considerations such as the initial investment for collection infrastructure, the ongoing operational costs, and revenue generation through the sale of recycled material. For instance, collecting enough bottles to recover the investment requires financially sensible planning and efficient execution. Budget management for educational materials, resource allocation, and cost-benefit analysis of recycling outcomes are crucial for sustainability .
