Homework 2: What is Globalization?

1. What is globalization?
Globalization is basically when countries around the world become more connected to each other.
It's like the world is getting smaller because we can now easily trade goods, share information, and
communicate with people from different countries. This happens because of better technology, faster
transportation, and the internet. So now what happens in one country can affect other countries too.

2. What are the three types of globalization? Define each.


Economic Globalization: This is about money and business. Companies can now sell their
products in different countries, and people can invest money in foreign businesses. For example,
you can buy an iPhone made in China, or McDonald's can open restaurants in the Philippines. It's
basically about making business global instead of just local.
Cultural Globalization: This is about sharing cultures and traditions. Like how we watch
American movies, listen to K-pop music, or eat Japanese food here in the Philippines. Sometimes
our own culture changes because we adopt things from other countries. Social media also helps
spread different cultures around the world.
Political Globalization: This is when countries work together on political issues and follow
international rules. Like when countries join organizations like the United Nations or follow
international laws. What one government does can now affect other governments too.

3. What are the advantages and disadvantages of globalization?


Advantages:
 More job opportunities because foreign companies invest in our country
 We can buy products from all over the world
 We learn about different cultures and become more open-minded
 Countries can help each other during disasters or problems
 Technology and knowledge spread faster

Disadvantages:
 Some local businesses close because they can't compete with big foreign companies
 Rich people get richer while poor people stay poor
 We might lose our own Filipino culture and traditions
 Workers in developed countries lose jobs because companies move to cheaper countries
 Environmental problems because of more factories and transportation

4. Is globalization favorable to the Philippines? Why or why not?


Globalization has both good and bad sides for the Philippines, but overall, I think it’s more
favorable. It opens up a lot of opportunities, like more jobs in international companies and access to better
technology. It also helps Filipino products reach other countries. But at the same time, it can be hard for
small businesses to compete, and we rely too much on other countries for things like food and goods. It
also makes us more influenced by other cultures, which sometimes makes people forget our own. So, it’s
helpful in many ways, but we should also be careful and try to protect local industries and culture.
