RCC Residential Building Plan Task - 2 - Load Assessment
& Slab Design (Task 2)
Student: Khushi B23077, Civil Engineering 3rd Year
College: IIT MANDI
Supervisor: Dr. Subahmoy Sen
Units: Standard SI units (kN, m, mm)
Slab thickness (all slabs): 150 mm
Unit weight of concrete: 25.0 kN/m3
Floor finish (superimposed dead load): 1.0 kN/m2
Live loads: Rooms/Kitchen/Bedroom/Guest/Toilets = 2.0 kN/m2; Lobbies & Stairs = 3.0 kN/m2
Design method: Limit State Method as per IS 456 and IS 875 (Part 1 & 2). Only Dead and Live loads considered.
Material: Concrete M25 (assumed), Steel Fe500 (assumed). Effective cover = 20 mm, effective depth d = slab
thickness - cover - bar radius.

Notes: This is a conservative one-way design using shorter span as effective span for each slab panel.
For refined and economical design, two-way moment distribution (continuous slab design) should be performed
using panel boundary conditions (beams/edges/columns).
Shear, deflection and punching shear checks are not included and should be carried out when framing details are
available.
