RCC Residential Building Plan Task - 2

Load Assessment & Slab Design — One-way and Two-way per panel
Student: Khushi B23077, Civil Engineering 3rd Year
College: IIT MANDI
Supervisor: Dr. Subahmoy Sen

Design procedure followed (per your summary):

1. Identify span and supports (Clause 22.2).
2. Select cover and exposure (Table 16).
3. Choose trial depth using span/depth ratio (Clause 23.2.1).
4. Calculate service and ultimate loads (IS 875).
5. Compute design moments and shear (Annex C).
6. Verify depth for moment capacity (Page 96).
7. Determine steel area (SP-16 Table 3).
8. Fix bar spacing and check cracking (Table 19, Page 46).
9. Provide distribution reinforcement (Clause [Link]).
10. Perform shear and deflection checks (Clauses 40.1, [Link], Fig.4).
11. Finalize detailing and drawing.

Methodology notes:
One-way slabs: Designed as one-way with main bars across short span (Mu = wL^2/8) and distribution bars equal
to minimum steel.
Two-way slabs: Classified by aspect ratio <=2. Designed conservatively for bending in both directions separately
(Mu = wL^2/8 in each direction). This is safe and overestimates steel compared to IS coefficients, but appropriate
when support continuity coefficients are not available.
Shear and deflection checks performed using conservative assumptions; τ_c estimated from IS456 relation using
provided steel percentage.

Conclusions:
All panels designed per rule: one-way slabs designed as one-way; two-way slabs designed conservatively in both
directions.
Design satisfies bending, shear and deflection checks with conservative assumptions.
For an optimized two-way design using IS 456 coefficients and continuity effects, provide beam support/continuity
details and I will refine the design.
Punching shear and detailed distribution/top steel for continuity are not included; can be added with column/beam
details.
