THE RUNES OF THE WITCHES

Introduction and small user guide

Also called 'Wicca Runes' or 'Gypsy Runes', their origin is

wrapped in a halo of mystery and its popularity in recent
the times is mainly due to its description in the 1981 book
titled "The Lid of the Cauldron" by the writer Patricia Crowther, a
of the most relevant figures in Wicca.

Crowther describes in his book the meaning of the eight Runes.

eight Sabbats. Subsequently, five more runes have been added,
raising the number of Runes to thirteen in the most modern version.

The most commonly used method is described simply below.

We will only interpret the Runes that show us their drawing, those that
they have fallen upside down are discarded, as well as those that have
decided to escape from the cloth. If a Rune is 'mounted on another'
the meaning must be combined, with precedence given to the
superior over the inferior. The gravitation of the Runes increases
as they approach the consultant, with the most important being the
closest, which we will call from now on: 'Guide Runa'.

If the runes all fall face down or off the cloth, it's a clear
message that the consultation is not suitable at this time and
it advises to wait, at least, a week.

The original symbols are:

THE SUN: The first Rune shows a sun radiating its energy.
It can represent the figure of a man, a favorable omen,

As Runa Guía indicates a favorable forecast, we are going to obtain
positive results in the matter we are investigating.
A successful year awaits us ahead.

THE MOON: The second Rune is illustrated with a Waxing Moon,

with four symbols inside that represent its four phases.
It can represent the figure of a woman, a wife, birth or
pregnancy (If the inquiry is focused on these topics). Also
changes in the next twenty-eight days, if the stone is in the
main position, in this case the changes will be favorable
depending on the nearest rune. It can also represent a
trip abroad.

THE RINGS: The third Rune shows us two intertwined rings

and it indicates a successful result for all questions
related to love and marriage. When it is found as

In that position, it also gives us a resounding 'YES' to the question: -

the horizon.

THE WAVES: Also called 'The Serpent', this fifth Rune
relates to family matters and the relationship of the consultant with their
family and close friends. If we are near the Sun, a journey awaits us
long, perhaps to abroad, and near the moon foretells the journey of
someone close. If they are near the rings it can mean a
romance abroad.

THE BIRDS: The Rune number six represents three birds flying,
It indicates sudden news of an unexpected nature. When we

documents that will bring us joy, also good news from
friends or partners at a distance. If you find yourself as a Runa Guide
our life can have a complete and deep change, often
for the better.

THE MAZORCA: The Run number seven is a stone of good Luck and
it symbolizes an ear of corn. As the main stone, it is the Rune
most positive of all, denotes a happy and prosperous end to the matter
consulted. It foresees growth in economic and social matters,
Good luck and prosperity are expected. Alongside the Rune of Love
it means a fortunate marriage and next to the Sun, a bright one
career. Finally, next to the Wave it predicts success abroad.

THE BLACK RUNE: Also represented as a sickle, the Eighth

Runa is represented by several cuts forming the letter 'H'. In
its main position indicates losses, pain, and misfortune in general,
goodbyes and sometimes, mourning. It should never be interpreted alone,
except that it is the only Rune in reading position. It is advised
read in relation to the other visible Runes, as these often
they mitigate what may initially seem like a misfortune. For example: If
is close to the lunar stone indicates that the unfavorable situation
what we are living will improve in about twenty-eight days.
