the driver and the front passenger suffer injuries, or the severity of them, in certain types of collisions
Sections. The sections "SRS AIRBAG" and "SEAT BELT" of this Workshop Manual
they contain the necessary information to carry out the system maintenance safely.
WARNING:
Always keep the following in mind to avoid accidental activation.
To prevent the SRS from malfunctioning, which would increase the risk of personal injury or death.
In the event of a collision that activates the airbag, all maintenance must be performed in a
authorized NISSAN/INFINITI dealership.
SRC-4
PRECAUTIONS
CAUTION
Improper maintenance, including incorrect disassembly and assembly of the SRS, can
to incur personal injuries due to the involuntary activation of the system. To obtain information A
about the dismantling of the spiral cable and the airbag module, refer to 'SRS AIRBAG'.
• Never use electrical test equipment on circuits related to the SRS, unless
unless otherwise indicated in this Workshop Manual. The wiring installations of the SRS may

relation.
PRECAUTIONS WHEN USING MECHANICAL TOOLS (AIR OR ELECTRIC) AND C
HAMMERS
WARNING:
Always keep the following in mind to avoid accidental activation. D
When working near the airbag diagnostic sensor unit or other sensors of
the airbag system and the ignition switch should be in the ON position or the engine should be running,
never use electric or air mechanical tools or strike near the sensors with
a hammer. A strong vibration could activate the (the) sensor(s) and deploy the airbag, with the con- E
next risk of severe injuries occurring.
If electric or air power tools are going to be used, always turn off the switch

DESCRIPTION J
The supplemental restraint system (SRS) activates the airbag module and the seat belt pretensioner.
it activates when detecting a frontal collision whose impact exceeds the established value. Along with other devices-
Safety features reduce the impact experienced by the occupant during a collision.
K
The airbag diagnostic sensor unit provides electrical power to the airbag module and the pre-
tension of the seat belt when the deceleration exceeds a specified limit that is detected
through the G sensor of the airbag diagnostic unit and the impact zone sensor. The
the airbag module is made up of an electric igniter (detonator), a filter, pyrotechnic material and L
materials that generate gas. When the airbag module receives a signal from the diagnostic sensor unit-
Airbag diagnosis, ignites the pyrotechnic material through the electric igniter (detonator) in such a way
that the gas-generating material produces nitrogen at high temperature. The gas passes through the filter and M
activate the airbag. Simultaneously, the seat belt pretensioner receives electrical supply from the
diagnostic airbag sensor unit, the gas generator is activated and then gas is generated.
The balls found in the tube move according to the pressure of the generated gas and impact on
the gear of the pinion at the height of the ELR axis. The ELR axis rotates and folds the belt N
FUNCTIONS OF THE AIRBAG DIAGNOSTIC SENSOR UNIT
The airbag diagnostic sensor unit has the following functions.
• Detects a collision and supplies energy to deploy the airbag and the seat belt pretensioner. O
It incorporates a G sensor for front collision to detect collisions.
It has an additional power supply function in case of failure of the electrical supply of the
battery in a collision. P
• Detects and records electrical faults in the airbag system and makes the airbag warning light flash.
• Detects and logs the deployment of the airbag and turns on the airbag warning light.
• Indicate the faulty part by the number of blinks of the airbag warning light in diagnostic mode.

• Never use electrical testing equipment on circuits related to the SRS, unless
as indicated in this Workshop Manual. The SRS wiring installations can be identified
by the yellow and/or orange color of the installations or the connectors of the installation.
• Never repair, splice, or modify the SRS wiring installation. If the installation is C
damaged, replace it with a new one.
Keep the ground connection clean.
DIAGNOSTIC FUNCTION D
The results of the SRS self-diagnosis can be read via the airbag indicator and/or CONSULT.
The user mode is exclusively prepared for the customer (driver). This mode notifies
to the driver of a malfunction through the operation of the airbag light. E
The diagnostic mode allows the mechanic to locate and inspect the faulty component.

change procedure.
In user mode, when the SRS airbag warning light does not flash, it is not possible to switch to
diagnostic mode through the operation of the power switch.
In diagnostic mode, when the repair is completed and the system status is normal, it K
switches to user mode when the power switch is moved from OFF to ON.
Procedure to change the diagnostic modality
L
Turn the power switch from the OFF position to ON.
2. The SRS airbag warning light turns on for 7 seconds and then turns off; next, turn on the inter-
Ignition switch in OFF position, before 1 second passes after the indicator light
I turned it off. M
3. After turning the power switch to the OFF position, wait for 3 seconds or more.
4. Repeat steps 1 to 3 2 times, so that these steps are repeated a total of 3 times.
5. Turn the power switch from the OFF position to ON. The diagnostic mode changes.
N
USER MODE
In USER MODE, the airbag warning light on the instrument panel blinks when it
detect a malfunction notifying the customer (driver) in that way. O
How to interpret the airbag indicator
1. Turn the power switch to the ON position and check that the airbag indicator is flashing.
2. Compare the airbag warning light blinking pattern with the examples. P
